Went today for lunch. Great quality meats.
I enjoyed great matambrito (pork), morcilla (blood sausage), entrance (skirt steak) and their amazing beef empanadas.
For dessert: flan con dulce de leche.

Friendly and caring service with unbeatable price for the quality.

Don't hesitate and visit!!!!

After a recommendation from our tour guide we decided to dine here and we were not disappointed. A lot of locals eat here and the place has a lovely honest charm to it with no frills. They give you a complimentary empanada and bread basket before your meal. After reading the reviews we opted to share a steak (bife de chorizo), fries and salad which was more than plenty! With a bottle of Malbec too it came to just £14 each so very reasonable (with the amount of food you receive). I would recommend however to ask for your steak one stage rarer than you normally would. We ordered ours rare and it came medium-rare but was still tasty. Get there promptly or 10 mins before 8 like we did as the place fills up fast!

No reservations, so we waited in the street about 15 minutes. Service was excellent and informative. We split one steak and it was enough. We also shared a mixed salad (4 items of your choice) and one order of fries. The Coquena cabernet savignon was a great pairing. We were too full for dessert, but the flan the next table got looked delicious. They take Visa but not Mastercard.

Parilla Pena has a well deserved reputation in Buenos Aires and indeed all over the world as the home of delicious Argentine grilled meat. As with the majority of restaurants in Buenos Aires, they open from midday until 4.00pm, then close again to re-open from 8.00pm until midnight. Being Australian, we found the opening hours a little difficult to get used to, but that worked in our favour. We had been warned that we should book, but when we arrived slightly before 8.00pm to find them just opening up, we easily got a table for four.

We had been told that the servings were large, so we did not order starters. This was one piece of advice we were very glad to have followed. The meals that we had were huge – the largest I have ever seen – but absolutely delicious. The steaks were perfectly cooked; so tender they could be cut without a steak knife; juicy and delicious.

The service was friendly and efficient, and while we did not stay long, neither did we feel that we were expected to get out early to allow another sitting. The prices were very reasonable for the size of the meals and we enjoyed the meal so much that we went back again for another meal a few days later – two visits in a six day vacation in Buenos Aires. Make sure you find time to enjoy this wonderful restaurant.

We had seen several Youtube videos featuring Parilla Pena and decided to visit on our first day in BA. We managed to arrive just before its 8pm dinner service (locals eat dinner quite late!) and we were glad we did. Though we weren't the first party seated, the place soon filled up and a line formed. As you might imagine, that also meant that the "maitre d'/manager," a rather dour looking older fellow who might also be the owner, was keen to keep things moving. The restaurant was casual, well-lit and family style, smaller than it appeared on the youtubes. We were immediately served the empanadas and bread with their special chimichurri that looked super spicy (but wasn't, yum). These were delicious and the empanadas were meatier than any we'd had in the States. From there, it was downhill. Four of us ordered two rib-eyes-for-two. We already knew that Argentinians like their meat very well done, so we asked for medium/rare. Even then, the cuts were tough, not the buttery, melt in your mouth that we had so looked forward to. In hindsight, we wish we had ordered the cuts that are most popular with locals , which we later learned is Bife de chorizo (like sirloin). Needless to say, disappointing and not cheap, we actually left lots behind. The fries were good, and we also ordered an inexpensive bottle of Argentinian malbec, which was fine. Besides wishing that we had ordered different cuts, we also wish that we had split the orders to have 1/2 steak each (they were huge) and then we could have tried so other dishes. The next night we went to a different place and the steak was delicious. Still, we were glad we went and enjoyed the experience overall. Just go early or you'll have a long wait.
