We stayed one night and find it totally overpriced. Breakfast said to be served from 8, and we were in a hurry, but it wasn’t ready until 8.30 which we find poor for that kind of establishment. But the view and surrounding is nice.

Dear UlricaJohnsson,

Thank you very much for your review, I find it quite difficult to be believe that one can rate an establishment 2 stars, with no adequate and or concrete explanation.

Please do contact me directly should you wish to explain your review.

Yours Sincerely,
Ockie Oosthuizen

The website of the hotel looked stunning.Reality of our stay was very different. We arrived 11pm.No welcome letter received with instructions. Room - dirty balcony, filthy walls, ironing board that falls apart and is about 100 years old. No hair conditioner in the bathroom, no wifi working. Mini bar had only one piece of nougat and one packet of nuts. Considering the hotel only provides breakfast (between 9am-10am ONLY, how inflexible), we were starved in our rooms (as we arrived late and battled time difference too). Far from shops, we had no choice of buying things nearby. No staff on duty, Thank god we brought chocolates from the airport. Espresso machine only provided one coffee capsule. So we had to share our coffee :).TV didn't work. No telephone in the room. Milk at breakfast was sour. Breakfast 10min walk away. After several complaints, we were given a bottle of sparkling wine. On a positive side - beautiful scenery, stunning venue but desperately needs refurbishment, stocking up the minibars (more revenue for you?!), better communication with guests, more flexibility in terms of breakfast and out of office assistance (as they all leave 5pm). Certainly wont be back.We loved Stellenbosch but certainly didn't love MolenVliet.

Having spent a few weeks across South Africa my partner and I spent our last few days in Stellenbosch at MolenVliet. There is no doubt about how majestic the vineyard is with accommodation boasting spectacular panoramic views. We stayed in a mountain view room which was beautifully decorated and came with a jacuzzi from which you can enjoy the views both during the day and the stars at night. However I must agree with some of the other comments as I was slightly disappointed by the lack of touches given the price one pays to stay at MoletVliet essentially for accommodation, views and a basic breakfast. It would have been nice to receive a complimentary bottle of MoletVliet wine given there is no wine tasting on site, furthermore arranging some wine tasting is a trick being missed as guests would love to purchase wine from where they are staying as a momento. Other touches missing are small things like slippers for exiting the jacuzzi, a bar for guests to enjoy a sundowner at, complimentary water and telephones for guests to contact reception (given a lot of the accommodation is on the other side of the vineyard or use generally to call locally to make reservations). We did have a lovely stay and if some of the above changes were made would recommend to friends and family however currently it’s too much for what it is.

Upon entering the gates, the location & gracious staff immediately whisk you off into a wonderful world away from all the busyness of life. I had a mountain view suite which included a luxurious bath, spacious room and lovely private veranda with plunge pool overlooking the vineyard. Our friends rented the Manor House which was truly a sprawling retreat... you can't go wrong here!

It sad giving Molenvliet 3 stars as this is our third visit to the estate. We got married here in 2016 then came back in 2017 and now again this year.

The past 2 years we’ve booked the mountain view executive suits which are amazing. The views are to die for but when we arrived this year we felt a little disappointed.

No one remembered us from before, last year we had a lovely greeting from Libby with a free bottle of wine in the room. This year we had a warm greeting but it was like we were strangers it lost the magic touch.

Our room when we arrived had the doors and windows open so there were lots of bugs everywhere.

The area was having work doing so there is a huge smell of paint. I don’t mind this as i know they want to make it nice for wedding season however what is unacceptable is the work still going on at 11pm. We went out for dinner and came back so tired but there was a man still working behind our building with what sounded like an angle grinder???? Kept us awake until gone 11pm and there is no one on site that late to complain too.

Some of the new work on site doesn’t look great either. There is a grass area on the road that looks a bit random and like a football pitch. I hope once the mountain view suits are complete they put it back on the roof and make the road a road again.

The staff before were fantastic as really made an effort to get to know you but this time the woman taking us on the golf buggy to our room was on her phone the whole time.

We enjoy coming back to Molenvliet each year we come to visit family and we’d even like to hire it again in the future but it’s the little touches that make it special and this time they were lost.

Molenvliet is a beautiful place to visit and I would say come but just not in a October whilst building work it happening. Rooms should at least be at a discounted rate.
