Celebrated Fathers Day at Asara Wine Estate Restuarant and was totally blown - the food was next level 👌🏻 Absolutely mouthwatering and the service was top notch x thank you Shepard and Ricardo - nothing was too much effort to make our day memorable… cant wait to return soon…. Love the view and ambience.. if you have not been yet, you missing out …. Thank you Asara💯👌🏻We will be back x ❤️ (The food was so delicious that we forgot to take a picture - we had the thai spiced mussels, chicken with red wine sauce and veg, and the vegetarian burger - wow to all meals🥰😍)

We ordered a hake and chips and a burger. Over the top pricing to start with. R170 for the burger and R180 for the fish. The fish was off and had to be sent back and the chips were undercooked and so salty it was ridiculous. Never going back.

Dear Mr Caruana,

Thank you for your visit to our Sansibar Bistro. We are sorry to hear you left so disappointed although our chef immediately reacted to your complaint by offering you a new dish and a complimentary sorbet. Our fish is sourced fresh from local fishermen and several portions had already been sold on the same day.The kitchen team checked the batch again without finding fault and when chef left your table you seemed satisfied. Mr Caruana, regarding the price we believe our menu is fairly priced considering the product and the beautiful setting we are able to offer.

We would love to welcome you again sometime should you change your mind.

Keep well & kind regards,
The Asara Team

We visited Asara on Sunday and were so let down, the view is amazing but unfortunately that is where it ends, the food is pricey which would be acceptable if it was good, but it was not, some was so u edible we opened to take home but we’re advised that we were not allowed to take away. We then 3 times tried to order drinks but after an hour and a poor meal the drinks had still not arrived so we paid the bill which included a tip. The waitress did not provide any service and we were not even offered salt and pepper, perhaps the tip should be at the discretion of the patron and dependent on the service ?

I live in Stellenbosch, thus familiar with a lot of restaurants. I met a local friend for coffee. The Deli is still closed, therefore we had coffee on the restaurant verandah with one of the most beautiful views in Stellenbosch. Great was our surprise when the bill arrived at R45 per capuccino! Come on Asara, you need the locals, why are you charging way over the odds for a coffee which is nowhere near as good as our local roasteries!!! Hope you’ll address urgently

Dear Lilah,
Thank you for your comment. Yes, you were right and we have re-visited and adjusted our coffee prices in the meantime. We did change our coffee supplier and it seems that a calculation error slipped through unnoticed, we apologize. Thanks again for reaching out Lilah. Please would you let us have your contact details? We would like to make sure that your next coffee with a view at Asara, is on us!

The view is lovely, but hotel feels extremely corporate with zero character. The lack of covid precautions, especially in their wine cellar (small, indoors, cramped, little ventilation) and no effort was made to accommodate anything outside upon request. The website is misleading (i.e. talks about biking, but no bikes, only a connection to a company). Regret staying here in general, especially during covid.

Dear jmeob1

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us feedback regarding your recent visit. We appreciate your comment and regret to hear that the style of our hotel did not meet your taste. The fact that we recently replanted and plants are not yet fully grown might have added to the corporate feel? We are currently also keeping decorative extras to a minimum with regards to table setting in the restaurant, in public areas as well as hotel rooms all with the aim of putting safety and health first.

Reg Covid precautions we can assure you that we strictly adhere to rules and regulations. With open spaces, widely spaced tables in the courtyard, terrace and restaurant area, meticulous disinfecting, temperature taking etc we make sure guests can relax and visitors as well as staff are safe at all times.

Yes, our tasting room is relatively small but here too all precautions are taken, visitor numbers are limited, tables spaced out etc. We wish we could have accommodated you with an outside tasting but unfortunately this is not allowed due to liquor licence restrictions. Enjoying a glass of our wines (or currently a mocktail) on the Sansibar terrace in open air with panoramic views might make up for this limitation.

Regarding biking: we checked our website description again and think it is correct as it clearly refers to “Bikes & Wines” offering guided tours of the Winelands from their satellite office at Asara. Regrettably not all offers are available due to the current extra-ordinary circumstances.

Dear jmeob1, we thank you once again for reaching out and sharing your concerns.
Wishing you all the best, please keep well & stay healthy.
Kind regards from ASARA
