We spent a lovely weekend on this Karoo farm , situated between Calitzdorp and Oudshoorn. As you turn off the R62 into the farm you arrive at a farm store displaying all sorts of homemade goodies and a restaurant which serves typical South African Cuisine and scrumptious roosterkoek ( bread placed on a grill). The guest rooms are all decorated in classic Victorian style, the rooms are cosy and comfortable ( one almost feels like you are living in your own home). We had no TV which was perfect it gives you time to relax and enjoy the outside boma ( fireplace) and sip wine whilst viewing the bright stars above and listening to the calls of the night animals. The setting is so perfect and tranquil a typical rustic farm atmosphere. You feel free and safe and so at peace in this tiny spot of tranquillity surrounded by sparse barren vegetation and huge rugged mountain ranges. The staff and the owners went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. I can highly recommend this country farm stay along Route 62.

Room tip: We stayed in room 1 which was perfect.

Our group of friends booked all the guestrooms for our stay in the Karoo and nothing could have prepare us for the absolute wonderful experience. Linda and her staff could not do enough to accommodate our big group (that comes with lots of small children). Our rooms where beautiful and made up as requested to accommodate each family. We even stayed for Sunday lunch, which comes with the best Malva Pudding we have ever had..... If you are looking for a wonderful getaway, this is the place to go. We will all definitely be back for another stay. Thank you all at Bella de Karoo.

We arrived later in the afternoon, looking for a place to rest our heads, this was on the R62 between Oudtshoorn and Calitzdorp. What a magnificant stop over, a clean fresh room with a verandah over looking the bushveld and a sunset right in front of you. The cabins were spotless with all towels and linens provided, had an old farmhouse feel to it but very cosy and the bathroom tub was vintage with a shower and a big area to wash and dress - really very unexpected, and highly worth staying over. Exceptional rates. But the most mentionable is the breakfast the next day, especially prepared as we had a banter and a vegan travelling with us. The effort, enthusiasm and willingness to offer a service was incredible. I would def visit this place again and again and again just to be pampered by the manager of the Restaurant and to be greeted by Hennie !!!! Such wonderful people. One last thing, on our way to the sleepover, we ran into a roadblock (demolition) which delayed us so that meant we arrived about 4 hours after planned. This resulted in us having no supper or dinner arrangements. So we phoned Bella de Karoo who said that on our arrival they would have food waiting in our two units that we booked for 4 people. As promised on arrival, we had a bottle of wine waiting, with South African bobotie, soup, salad, dessert, fresh cream ! This was such a feast for weary travellers and we all cuddled up to the farm table in one room and had the most incredible dinner and evening, again, never to be forgotten!! Do yourself a favour, and make this stop, worth every penny for the experience and the ambience. It just looks like a farmstall on the side of the road, but a few metres back they have this amazing accomodation. We will let everyone know about Bella de Karoo, it impressed us that much, thank you for the Wonderful stay !!!

Room tip: All rooms overlook the bushveld for the sunset, room 1 and 4 are amazing !

Bella de Karoo is under new ownership, and it shows.

Our family spent a peaceful evening there en route from PE to Cape Town.
Our rooms were simply but elegantly decorated, with top-notch linen etc.,
but actually you go there for the peace & quiet, and the sunsets.
We braaied (barbequed; supplemented with wine and tasty side dishes from their farm stall) at the boma, behind our dwelling, where an adequate supply of firewood, charcoal and firelighters had been thoughtfully left for us.

The next morning when we stopped to drop off the keys, we were surprised to find that a farm breakfast was included in the (modest) per-person fee; I left satisfied like a hobbit after Second Breakkies!

Highly recommended for anyone taking the inland route (i.e. R62) along the coast!

We (2 couples) stayed one night in two very comfortable double rooms, which were very nicely decorated. The tables were nicely set-up for the dinner, which we thoroughly enjoyed. For breakfast we chose the traditional/local option, which was very nice and different to the usual cooked breakfasts. Staff was friendly and helpful. We loved the eco/support local community approach, and the regenerating eco sanctuary was really interesting. We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed longer! We highly recommend this farmstay.
