I came here after having spent several weeks on safari in South African National Parks. I had seen Meerkats in Kgalagadi And Camdeboo national parks although very briefly. I was worried the experience may not be natural enough or might seem contrived, especially at this price. I worried it would not be worth it.
It turned out to be amazing. It is the only natural Meerkat observation available anywhere. They go out at sunset every night to find where the family is staying that night in preparation for the morning. It was fun waiting for them, a beautiful setting. Previous "studies" and shows on meerkats have used food to be able to watch them, these guys are doing it naturally with minimal interference. They are building an incredible knowledge base on the actual habits of these adorable social creatures. The guides were very passionate and excited, as they should be since they are contributing to study and research, not merely showing people animals. Now having been and better understanding the meerkats behavior, the problems, work involved, efforts for conservation, I feel the price is completely justified.
I am used to getting up at 5 to watch animals these days so that part was okay for me, dress warmer than you expect even in summer mornings can be cool.
