Flamingo Lake Self Catering
Certificate of Excellence

The beach, the wetlands, and the lake combines to give this place an air of complete tranquillity. The fresh wind that blows off the sea, and wild horses (yes, we did see them...7 in fact) is like a soothing balm to the soul.

We loved it! It was a close to Cape Town (so an easy drive in), yet far away enough for it to feel like a complete break from the hum-drum of the work week.

The rondavel was well equipped, and comfortable. We stayed in no 5, and it was situated to the side facing the wetlands. There was also a seating area for watching the brilliant sunsets.

We will definitely be back - matter of fact, we have already booked 6 days for the end of the year!

Room Tip: The rondavel No 5 is situated towards the wetlands.

We enjoyed this tranquil lovely spot and were lucky enough to see the flamingoes and one of the wild horses whilst walking around the estuary, and a whale lobtailing from the table outside the rondavel. The accommodation was comfortable and attractive and well equipped.

Our last minute decision to get away prior to a long weekend seemed impossible.
When I found Flamingo lake on the internet and e-mailed Lee (who was on a boat cruise thousands of kilmetres away), it was destiny.
This get away was so good for me and my husband who have been going through a difficult time.
I have never seen such natural beauty. When we walked on the beach, it would only be our footprints in the sand. The visits from the birds, the peace and quiet. The cosy warm, well equipped rondawel.. We will definitely be back :-)

Thank you Lee for making this trip possible even while u were away on holiday.

The location and access to the lagoon with its beautiful, breath taking scenery and birdlife is just amazing - tranquillity right at your doorstep. We captured some spectacular pictures. Good for the soul.

If you want to doze off and wake up to the sound of the sea rather than traffic, this is the place for you. (Not to mention countless birdsongs – ranging from the easily identifiable to the downright strange!) Get away from it ALL here, taking time out to walk the beautiful beach at sunset, sunrise and in between…

We have visited Flamingo Lake Rondavels about five or six times over the past few year, as a ‘romantic’ couple and as a family with my two teenage sons, and every time has been more special than the last.

So much so, that I am almost reluctant to rave about the place – else it is inundated with bookings, preventing us from visiting our favourite spot by the Hermanus coast!

We have stayed in two of the owner’s rondavels; both clean, bright and substantial for either a weekend away or longer. All is provided…lovely bedding on comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchenette, braai area, outside tables and chairs, small garden with AMAZING sea views across the lagoon – just a short walk to the immense (and mostly deserted – bliss!) beach.

This isn’t a beach for swimming, but the nearby village, Onrus, is perfect for that. Instead, revel in the fact that you can walk for miles without seeing another soul – well, maybe a whale (in season), wild horse or some of the aforementioned birds (flamingoes included, of course!)

If I am honest, I cannot recommend the place enough – just please don’t be there when I want to book! Lee, the lady-owner, is most welcoming and will accommodate you should you forget a towel or two.
