Description: Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic core of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate next to the historic Manor House and surrounded by ancient oak trees. Your first impression is dominated by sweeping views across the oldest wine producing vineyards in South Africa, down the valley to the enveloping coastline of False Bay. This family owned and managed bistro boasts a diversity of locations from private dining grandeur, to intimate interior fire side dining, to typical Italian village gatherings in their vine covered courtyard to family style lunches on their front lawns, were children can safely play reminiscent of a bygone era.. Partner Chris Coetzee, a father of two energetic young sons says, "Our close proximity and strong association with Iziko Museums is very important to me, it is a privilege for my children to be raised surrounded by so much of their heritage." The rich cultural history of Jonkershuis lends a magical and old world charm to any occasion held at the beautiful Jonkershuis. Tammy Botbyl (partner), "The strong legacy of history and tradition has inspired many couples to share their vows here and celebrate their union in style. It is a privilege for us to be part of the beginning of so many new legacies."

Wow those mussel starters were excellent. Loved sitting in the courtyard in the evening - really beautiful and cool. Staff were excellent.
Hubby enjoyed the Malay curry and I couldn't believe the starters were so filling.
Had wonderful time and will definitely visit again soon in the evening. I find the breakfast a bit hectic and busy.

A group of 10 adults and about 9 children well catered for. Swift food preparation and service after ordering. Relaxed atmosphere encouraged a long Sunday lunch with the rain ( finally a drizzle in Cape Town) not impacting at all on the enjoyment. I wanted a traditional meal and thoroughly enjoyed the Bobotie. The kids menu catered well to the children and the pork belly was especially enjoyed by other members of the group. Can recommend the Cab Sav. All in all a great afternoon with the views of the vineyards and mist on the mountain.

We were last here about four years ago and found it to be much better this time around. The menu has been expanded beyond the speciality Cape Malay curries and dishes so there really is something for everyone.

The food is unpretentious but delicious - do not miss the samosas! They also have a nice range of daily specials. Service can be a touch sporadic especially if you are towards the end of the outdoor tables, but we found the staff very friendly. At the end of the day it is definitely a casual rather than fine dining restaurant, and so the service reflects this.

Book ahead (or turn up towards the end of lunch service) to get a table out the front - the view across Constantia and down to Muizenberg is gorgeous. However it can get quite hot - the umbrellas don’t really cover the tables very well so if there are more than 3 of you, the rest of the group is likely to be right in the sun, so just bear that in mind! The indoor area we find a bit dingy - not so bad in the evening but not ideal at lunchtime.

Overall I would say this place is a crowd-pleaser - it suited our family group perfectly (anywhere that serves a decent Malva pudding gets my dad’s vote!) and we’ll definitely be back.
