We had been looking forward to this lunch for weeks. We chose the full tasting menu with wine. Having dined in some of the worlds finest restaurants the food was fabulous but the biggest let down was the matching wine. We ordered two full tasting menus and accompanying wine, not a cheap option but we hoped worth it. The food was great and worth every penny, the tasting wine portions were very very small, not only the price but for the quality of the restaurant. For the amount that we paid for the wine pairing we expected a lot more. It’s rare for us to walk away from such wonderful food to be so disappointed by the sub standard and measly portioned wine. Biggest advice - look at the great wine list and choose your own glasses/bottles to pair with your meals.

This meal, and the service that accompanied it, will stay in my mind forever. My group of 4 visited La Colombe on our last night in Cape Town. Everything was perfectly thought out and balanced. The food was interesting, surprising, and most important, delicious.

Aside from the food, the wait staff was the best I have ever experienced. Our server Grant was charming, funny, knowledgable, and unpretentious.

I wouldn't be able to afford La Colombe on a regular basis, but it is worth the splurge as an ultimate food destination.

Booked our night out there after we were recommended it by a South African in Augusta last year. He said you’d better book soon or you won’t get a table. His son in law James is the head chef. So we booked our table in April!

We certainly weren’t disappointed we had the best night from start to finish! The food a total experience and each course was introduced and explained (8 courses if I remember!?). Wines delicious!

The staff were such fun, totally professional and hugely efficient! One fab waiter managed to refold used napkins at the drop of a hat (in the shape of a dinner jacket, swan?!) he was very funny.

They had put on a disco for after supper where we bopped the night away. There were 9 of us. Four parents and five 20 something year olds. It catered for all of us perfectly. We had a fantastic and totally memorable evening.

Would highly recommend you however bring Africa’s Number 1 restaurant (and the 7th best in the world) you probably don’t need my thumbs up.

Thanks a million. We will be back.

We have been fortunate to visit many top restaurants in the UK but La Colombe ranks as high as the very best. The flavour combinations were out of this world. The service was superb and the setting stunning. We had the reduced tasting menu and still had a feast.

6 of us visited La Colombe just before Christmas at lunch.
From the get go the restaurant is set in the most breath taking surroundings. If you’re lucky enough to sit outside you will be blessed with the most astounding forest view.
We were greeted with a delicate palate cleanser of an apple “popper” inside a thin white chocolate that immediately burst in your mouth.
We opted for the reduced menu to avoid overeating at lunch and even so felt stuffed at the end!
Highlights included:
The bread with lambs butter presented with a bit of theatre by the chef.
The signature “tin of tuna”
The mango and coconut dessert was also outstanding.
Another bit of fun at the end of the meal was a taste test presenting the 6 different tastes salty, sweet, bitter etc to match with 6 mystery petit fours! On completion you get told the results- especially if you win ;)

It was a wonderful experience and it is such a shame that South Africa isn’t visited by the Michelin Guide because they surely would come up trumps.

All the right to be snooty and stuck up but refreshingly fun and down to earth- an unrivalled stunning day out if you love food
