Review of Dalliance

Dalliance
Ranked #132 of 1 299 Restaurants in Cape Town Central
Certificate of Excellence
Description: WELCOME TO THE DALLIANCE In the heart of the V&A Waterfront's golden mile is Dalliance, Cape Town's freshest authentic urban eatery. Flanked by the Atlantic Ocean on one side, a bustling kitchen at its heart and shoppers browsing on the other, this spot has it all. Frantic yet sophisticated, absorbing yet chilled out, let the cool chaos engulf you. Oyster shucking, raw juice making, craft beer pouring... there is so much to take in. The decor is chic, simple and considered; industrial meets library, in duck egg blue, copper and wood. Sit back, relax and allow the upbeat jazz to wash over you while the laid-back staff wow you with their gutsy sharing plates, lovely local wine by the glass and stellar cocktails.

When you are at the Waterfront, one can experience a restaurant overload and it is so good to know that there is a spot away from the hustle and bustle that serves great food with service to match.

We had visited this establishment a few days after it opened. As you will see from my review on TA, I thought it was pretty good. Our second visit didn't disappoint.

This time around we had one or two new items whilst also having given into temptation and having some of our favourites from the first visit. Once again we had the calamari and spaghetti. This is by far the best ever spaghetti we have eaten! We also tried their pepper beef cubes - tender and delicious.

Our wonderful waitress advised us that they also had specials of the day. I opted for the baby kingklip with fries. This kingklip was cooked to perfection with chili, olive oil and garlic. Wow! Wow! Wow! My partner is not a seafood lover but he was even tempted and stole a piece or two. He opted for the beef tagliata which had the most tender beef. He thoroughly enjoyed it.

On this visit we also had dessert which we didn't have the last time. I had the Beignets with cream and raspberries while my partner had the nougat ice cream with raspberries, mango and some other fruit. Both were heavenly.

We will definitely be back and suggest that you visit them if you are looking for a place with great food, service and a view.

We stopped here for a light lunch while shopping in the V& A mall. It's a small restaurant on the first floor of the mall, with large windows looking out on the sea shore. It's modern in style, clean, with a bar and kitchen on the left and tables on the right and at the back. It serves a tapas style meal and we had three dishes between two of us, which was plenty for a light lunch. Others may prefer more but only if they want a more substantial meal. The food was very very good. Service was excellent too.

The restaurant was quiet when we arrived. Drinks were served quickly though we did have to ask for an ice bucket for the white wine. The menu was not explained, neither were we told that specials were available. On asking we were advised to have four plates each as the portions were very small. The tapas were presented very well and were all very tasty, though the flavours were not distinct as all seemed to be cooked with chilli. We only had the fish dishes. The meat ones may have been different. All in all very nice but pricey for what we had.

Restaurant has a great vibe to it. Tapas were tasty. Some more than others. The one that stood out the most was the raclette cheese. Not a huge dessert fan but the coconut vanilla rice pudding was heavenly. I'd go back just for that! Service excellent.
