My wife and I have been to Reverie several times over the years. It is our favorite place for dinner in Cape Town.
Chef Julia has created a unique dining experience. Set around a long table, you spend the evening enjoying delicious food while making new friends. The food is excellent—Chef Julia is a master of rich flavors built from local and sustainable ingredients. The vegetables are fresh. The meats are perfectly cooked. Each course is expertly paired with a different glass of South African wine. She thoughtfully tailors each dish to complement the flavors in your glass. The result is seamless.
As you arrive, Chef Julia greets you with a welcome drink and invites you to meet your fellow diners. It is often a mix of people from around the globe. You may be strangers at the beginning of the night, but by the end of the meal you’re exchanging WhatsApp details and winery recommendations with your new best friends. Or, as it happened on Friday night, you discover that the woman sitting across the table from you lived down the hall from your wife in college. It’s a delightfully small world, especially around the Reverie Social Table.
But the best part of the meal is Chef Julia and her staff. Service is exquisite. Julia is welcoming and earnest about making you feel at home. She comes out and explains each course and answer any questions you have. She’s the heart and soul of the restaurant.
Whether you live in Cape Town or are just visiting, it would be a mistake to not go to Reverie.
