Description: Saigon in Cape Town has become one of the hot spots. With magnificent views of Table Mountain and their soft, muted lights, Saigon has acquired the perfect ambience. The Vietnamese decor is done elegantly without giving the restaurant a themed feeling. The menu is mainly Vietnamese with Japanese influences. Starters to try includes the Grilled Chicken Skewer and do-it-yourself Lettuce Wraps accompanied with prawns, fresh herbs, noodles and sweet chilli sauce. Some of the more popular Main Courses are the Chicken Cashew Nuts, their Spicy Beef Basil with chilli sauce and the Saigon Ginger Fish covered in a batter. All the Main Courses can be served with rice or noodles. Saigon's exotic Deep-Fried Ice Cream is a must if you have space after your lavish First and Main Courses. The ice cream is deep-fried with a batter casting and then served with their honey syrup. Holding its own between the many restaurants in Kloof Street, this is one of those restaurants were one should book in advance as it is always busy no matter what day of the week it is.

We had my daughters 21st birthday family dinner at Saigon and they really do need to be commended on their service and their food.

Saigon was the first restaurant we went to when moving to Cape Town 15 Years ago and we have been frequenting the establishment ever since, and not once have we had a bad meal or unacceptable service and my daughters birthday was no exception. The manager responded to my various emails promptly and was quite happy for us to bring along our cake and balloons and all 17 of us had a wonderful evening. Our waiter chatted to each of our guests, making suggestions and recommendations as what to order. Impressively, all of our meals arrived at the same time - despite the restaurant being full - and every dish was a culinary delight.

As everyone finished off I went downstairs to pay the bill only to discover that we were the last clients still there and the staff were waiting patiently for us to finish off. Not once did they make us feel rushed.

To have achieved, and maintained, these standards for well over a decade is quite an achievement.

Many thanks for a lovely, and most memorable, evening.

Had the best dumplings here since travelling in China, so good we went here twice to have them again. The staff are very attentive without being intrusive. The restaurant is immaculate and all the glasses sparkled in the candlelight. Can recommend the sizzling chilli beef and chicken with ginger and spring onion.

For the last 3 Sunday nights i have ordered the Pho soup for collection and every week there is an issue.

I order it because it is really at the moment the only place in cape town that sells it and the soup is very good the problem is the service.

The first week i ordered it the meat that goes in the soup was not cooked... if that is the way they do it then fine but atlweast warn the customer that you will be payng R100 for a soup and then have to cook the meat.

Last night i specified 2 things 1- make sure there is enough garnish because last week there was not 2 - make sure there is cutlery because last week there was not. I collect the take out for my wife and I so 2 soups and there is no cutlery. I phone the restaurant and asked to speak to manager said would get back to me and never did.

dont get me wrong the food is good but just bercause they busy and dont really need to sell me the 2 soups in the week they should still care about the customer. When more places start to sell Pho i will not be going to saigon.

We were a pre-booked group of 13 on a busy Sunday evening. Food was excellent when it came, but main meal came out in dribs and drabs, with no indication from waiter or manager that they were having kitchen problems. When we complained that we would have preferred food more simultaneously, the waiter gave us a bit of attitude. We would have been more understanding if someone had warned us they were having some challenges in the kitchen, but the arrogant attitude was very disappointing.

Food was excellent though, and big portions, so maybe we were just unlucky...
