We were enchanted from the moment we stepped out of the cold, wet winter and into the fragrant warmth of this studio. It isn't fancy but it is homely with quirky touches....by far the best being the paper tablecloths and jar of crayons encouraging diners to bring out their hidden artist - and the best offerings make it onto their wall of fame! The menu covers a few starters, lots of lovely pizza combinations and pasta dishes and then some delectable desserts. After good pizza we were further delighted to read that sharing was encouraged and half and half is possible as my husband and I do not share the same tastes! We decided on a chicken liver starter to share, and then a half and half pizza (my half with a selection of ingredients from the build-your-own section - including roasted butternut, bacon and rocket). The chicken livers were served with pizza bread and the pizza itself was made on a delicious thin base with the freshest ingredients. We devoured it all and went on to share a yummy Amarula ice-cream dessert with a slab of chocolate over it! With soft drinks our bill was around R200 - excellent value for money. We will certainly rate Breugels in our top pizza places worldwide!

This is by far one of my favorite local restaurants for pizza. It is a family orientated, low key environment where you can draw on the tables and enjoy the thinnest and tastiest pizza's Cape Town has to offer. Service is friendly and efficient. Ordering take aways is also quick.

This is a family favourite! It goes without saying that the pizzas are great, and Lisa, the manageress, is amazing. She runs her restaurant quietly and efficiently. It makes such a change to go somewhere where you can order, 'your usual', and your waitress knows what that is!!!
She remembers what you drink, as well as your favourite pizzas, even when you haven't been there for awhile. Service is excellent, and nothing is too much trouble. A great place for a cold winter's evening!

It was a slow Monday evening on Klipfontein Rd, Mowbray last night, 30 May 2016. (If you have no sense of humour – please refrain from reading further – I lay no claim to being a journalist or a food critic) A planned sushi evening at Roseberry (a favourite for sushi) did not happen, as they t are closed on Mondays. (Chastises self for not checking first – blames someone else. Actually it was someone else’s fault) Why, let’s go to Chai Yo (my go to restaurant) sadly, also closed on a Monday. (Note to self: clearly you do not eat out on Mondays.) PS – On a Roll has closed down. (Further down the road)

Off to Bruegel's Pizza Studio, an old favourite. The restaurant was rather quite at first……it was 7 pm; several tables filtered in, creating a lovely atmosphere, without the 'noise'. We had an upcountry visitor with us, who was tickled pink that wax crayons were provided and that patrons were encouraged to draw on the 'newspaper'. We all proceeded to ‘draw’…….as colouring-in is the “in” thing…..we all became artists. Great fun!! (Some purists will scoff that restaurants are not the place for ‘art’ to be created – we beg to differ, many a fine artist drew/painted/wrote in cafes and restaurants)

One person had two starters as their main course - both proclaimed excellent. One portion of snails (I cannot remember the other starter), one Puttanesca pasta and three pizzas. I had three types of pasta to choose from with lashings of Puttanesca sauce, just the right amount of olives, anchovies and capers (of course I asked for the capers that someone did not want on their pizza) and the chilli added the perfectly balanced, just the right amount of bite, to this tomato based sauce.
The pizzas are thin crust......all you deep-dish pizza fans don’t read this….the absolute best and you can build your own pizza. A huge variety of pizzas – some rather unusual ones too. (For next time, and the other next time) The three who had the pizzas raved about their food. (Sorry – not much of an idea of what kind of pizzas – too busy eating) Dessert was had by 4 of the 5 of us (I am not too big on desserts) all voted as extremely good.

The staff were friendly and attentive (not in our faces) and one step ahead of us….would you like another cool drink Ma’am? When someone wanted 2 starters as a main, it was not a problem. No capers on your pizza Sir, of course. Ma’am, you would like the capers not going onto the pizza, sure. Our upcountry guest learnt that Capetonians can never just have what is on the menu…we have to add, leave off, or completely change menu items.

I know why I keep coming back here – consistency, consistency, consistency, good service, portion size well balanced and really lovely, unpretentious food. Thank you!!
