My girlfriend and I spent a really relaxing evening at this delightful Kurdish restaurant on Long Street. We ordered two types of naan bread and lots of meze, all of which was delicious. We then moved onto the shisha pipes, such a chilled way to finish our evening. The decor is stunning and it was a welcome change to hear music being played that came from the Kurdish region. Our waitress was fantastic and we were stunned to find out afterwards that she was still training. Can't wait to go back.

We had enjoyed Mesopotamia many years ago and decided to return for my husbands birthday (using Groupon vouchers) The attitude from the start was obnoxious. We were told "I'm confiscation your wine" perhaps she could have said "unfortunately we don't allow corkage here, but feel free to order something from the wine list" The manager pulled my husband aside and insisting on getting the Groupon paperwork (which had already been emailed. Ghastly experience. They won't be seeing us or any of our guests ever again.

We visited recently as a group of 6. The main dining area offers seating around a table with floor cushions - a nice touch in traditional Kurdish hospitality.
We opted to move out onto the balcony soon after arriving, preferring the spacious table and benches.

Most of us ordered mojito's to start. The cocktail list could be a bit more exciting (fresh ingredients and better attention to preparation). It seems the wait staff are responsible for making these.

The food was okay. Not exciting or enticing enough to truly make a statement for what the restaurant stands for in terms of traditional Kurdish cuisine. The food could also use alot more spice and better seasoning. Maybe a few slight improvements on presentation too?

The starter course consisted of a variety of dips and spreads with bread. Very nice selection.
Main course was a selection of meats and bakes. Not very impressive. One can easily tell that these are prepared well in advance (dry, overcooked meats).
Dessert was the tiniest piece of baklava with a scoop of cheap vanilla ice-cream.

Overall, it was a fun evening as a group of friends. Not really overpriced for the amount of food (R150 per person for the set menu).

We will return, but definitely as a group once again. Can't imagine this being a venue for intimate dinners.

We wanted to try a new experience so bought a Groupon deal for Mesopotamia. We initially struggled to get a booking as the phone just rings for days on end. On arrival as we walked up the stairs we were transported into another world. The decor and ambiance is fantastic. We were immediately seated and the waitress was rather polite and attentive. The food arrived in no time. Portions on the Ten Meze platter are large. Food was good. Keep in mind that a compulsory 10% service is added to the bill. An extra R10 per person is charged on nights when belly dancing takes place. They state this on their website and on the menu. Food can be rather pricey

We loved this Kurdish restaurant situated up a narrow flight of stairs in Church Street and authentic in every way... beautiful suzani's cover the walls and you can either opt to sit on the verandah or laze about inside in low light on the floor on kelim cushions ...the food is superb, flavoursome and exotic..to match the atmosphere..at 9 am we were treated to a belly dancer who infused the space with magic and contributed to a wonderful atmosphere and great evening. would absolutely recommend Mesopotamia to locals and travellers from abroad!
