55 of us descended on the Cafe after a day of conferencing. We were seated in four contiguous rooms, and read with interest the menu pasted inside jars. A hostess came to clarify the proceedings - we would have everything on the menu, and if there was anything we particularly liked, we could ask for more.
Soon the dishes were flowing. A seaweed-and-spice soup was spectacular; the fried fish in batter was familiar; some of the salads were outstanding (a spicy beetroot and carrot had a huge kick); and the lamb was tender and delicious. I have not tried casava before, and it was good, with a spicy chickpea dip. Everything I tried was both good and interesting - and as for asking for more, there was no space!
The wines were really excellent. The service was attentive and quick. And the atmosphere was jolly. The only negative was the relative lack of washrooms - some in our party had to queue for a long while for relief - not quite overlong, thankfully, but long enough to be really uncomfortable.
