The bright colors of yellow and orange exterior invite you in to the 'parlor' where the owner/host Johann met us upon arriving with instructions and the key. We were in the Nelson Mandela room - painted with bars on the walls (as windows) and very little color. Due to the severe water shortage in Cape Town, they had to 'adapt' the rooms to comply with the restrictions. Washing your face in the sink was challenging as, I felt, most of the water squirted out from the faucet and not into my hand. Showering standing inside a large tub to collect all grey water was another experience. Johann met the guests each morning at breakfast - at the 'family' table - and engaged with all. The guests were from Japan, Germany, Italy, US (us) and it was wonderful meeting and chatting with all guests at breakfast. Breakfast choices were eggs, crepes, fresh breads and cereal. La Rose was right in the heart of Bo Kaap, walking distance to the Bo Kaap Museum, V&A Waterfront, shopping and restaurants. More
