Excellent food that had us ordering seconds. Dim sum and steamed buns were superb. Noodle soup was full of mouthfuls of delicious bites and completed with tasty broth. Dessert of 'lava cake' - custard-filled steamed buns was perfect to round off meal.
Not inexpensive, but well worth every cent for a taste of authentic food. Staff need a bit of training - not very attentive to begin with, and music needs attention - not the environment for club music played at high volume. Music was subsequently changed and turned down on request.
Overall - if you want the best in Cape Town, I can highly recommend Beijing Opera. We'll definitely go back to try out the rest of the menu.

Worst service, waiter made me write my own order on a slip and then half the stuff wasn't available. He chewed gum horribly whilst putting our food on the table. Frozen dumplings- very average! Go next door to the Mexican place it's amazing!!

Great ambience, simple menu with a lovely couple running this little establishment. When 100% character restaurants are mentioned this should definitely be one of them.

I went to Beijing Opera a couple months back and had the most delicious meal with friends with great service.... Decided to then take family there while they were here on holiday and what a disaster! Firstly an item that we ordered was not ordered (completely understandable), this was then re-ordered. We waiting about 40 minutes for our food and after ANOTHER 50 minutes of waiting the item that had been forgotten about was still not anywhere to be seen! Although I can't fault the food- it really is delicious, our experience was just incredible irritating and not once did we receive any kind of apology. During this time the staff seemed to all be socializing outside. Sad to say I won't be back!!!

Their dumplings are bought frozen, and the exact same ones are sold on sea point main road in the Chinese supermarket. They're then just steamed on site and a hefty mark up is added. Add to this that they're very inconsistent with their steaming times, and they're often over steamed and too soft.

Very sub par Chinese food.
