For my taste, Jardin d'Ebene is the perfect place to stay in Cape Town. It is located in a wonderful part of town, and exudes a tastefully elegant charm that feels like home. I stayed there with my son, coming to hike, scuba dive, and see the natural beauty of the area, along with the city itself.
The neighborhood is quiet, and safe, with room for street parking. Access to other areas is easy via Kloof Nek Road and Kloof Street which are 2 and 3 blocks away. There are fabulous restaurants, with a variety of cuisines, within easy walking distance on Kloof Street. The distance to the Company's Gardens, District 6 Museum, Bo-Kaap, and Castle of Good Hope is walkable. There is easy driving access to the V and A Waterfront, Lion's Head, Table Mountain Cable Car, Hout Bay, Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, and the Cape of Good Hope peninsula.
Our room was equipped with an extremely quiet air conditioner. The included breakfasts were wonderful and exceeded my expectations. There are a very large number of breakfast selections that are made to order, ample portions, all sorts of coffee, tea and delicious orange juice. Each breakfast included a in season fresh fruit tray with items such as pineapple, kiwi, watermelon, mango, papaya, and dragon fruit. The courtyard has beautiful plantings of palms, hibiscus tree, succulents etc.
The best part of staying at Jardin d'Ebene is the owners and staff. The staff are polite, gracious and friendly. Roland and Alexandra are consummate hosts. Roland is a tremendous source of practical information including what to see, how to get there, where to eat, local customs, safe walking routes and local area weather reports. At breakfast each morning he would ask what we were considering doing that day, give valuable advice, and check local weather reports to see which areas outside of Cape Town would have the best weather that day. He really helped to make our vacation an enjoyable one.
