Signal Hill Lodge
Reviewed 9 November 2015

The Signal Hill Lodge is beautiful hotel, with scenic views of the city and harbor from some rooms and the public areas.
The location of the lodge is practical for both tourist and business travel with easy access to the different areas of the city. You will need to have transport either your own or a taxi to access the city. If you do choose to walk be careful on the streets and narrow road up the hill keeping a look out for traffic and a not so nice neighborhood that you will pass on the way to the hotel. Some will say the whole area is getting run down and is in need a of a lift.

The location is perfect, with the rooms leaning towards the small side but quite adequate and clean the bed is very comfortable. Views from the lower front rooms are the best the other rooms are either on the side above the pool or close to the bar and public areas. My room was above the pool although quite in the evening and the winter I see that it could be noising in the summer.

The hot water system for the shower and basin is interesting but don’t worry staff will take the time to explain how to work the hot water. If you grew up on the farm or a rural area you will be familiar with the simple and straight forward system.

The WIFI is a paid service but slow I found it fine for emails without attachments but any net surfing, or downloading or uploading documents from or to my cloud server took a few minutes as did things I sent to Drop Box.

The hotel offers free and secure parking while I was checking in some guests mentioned that parking was bit of a squeeze so with a full size SUV I was concerned but the staff made a plan for me in the upper parking area which worked out perfect

You are told at check in that breakfast is not included in the price of the room if you wish to eat breakfast it will be an additional R 100.00 I chose to eat breakfast the one morning, the breakfast was good with made to order eggs and a variety of other cereals, breads, rolls, jams, cold meat, cheese, and fruit set out that allowed you to put together your breakfast the way you want it. If you choose not eat at the hotel there are a lot of restaurants and delis in the area that are open early in the morning and well worth exploring.

Overall I found the staff to be great open and friendly the hotel very comfortable making my stay at the hotel very enjoyable and I will be booking my next stay in Cape Town there.

Room Tip: The front lower rooms offer the best views

We stayed 4 nights. Very helpful staff, pleasant and polite, nothing too much trouble for them. The rooms are small and could be better laid out. Rooms quite adequate and clean. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast good variety and plenty of it. Don't expect a typical English cooked breakfast. Sausages are beef! Bacon and eggs, beans and mushrooms available. Toast etc. Not vast range of cereals but okay. Boiled egg available. Continental breakfast also available.

Lovely views over the city. We had a small balcony.
Not an area you could walk around at night. Local taxi firm used by hotel very good and reasonably priced.

Others have mentioned the bathroom or plumbing! The shower which has no pressure , probably get more flow from capetown's rainstorms. Also the sink and the shower plumbing are attached so you can't use separately you have to turn a lever. I got the hang of it in the end.The room could do with another electin socket.
These are a few minuses but getting a reasonably priced hotel in Capetown can be difficult. to find. The Staff Are Lovely. The area is quite steep but we didn't walk into town as cabs are reasonably priced. It has a small area which we didn't use but looked quite nice.
Has a bar area but no resturant. Good steak house not far away but will require cab for safety. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. Hair dryer in room, some bath gel/ mina ture shampoo available.

Room Tip: Choose a balcony you get nice views a little more expensive

We planned to stay for 6 nights, but booked 2 more nights. We loved staying at Signal Hill Lodge. They offered free and secure parking. Location is perfect, only ten walking minutes away from Lomg street. From the balconies you have an amazing view of the City, so it's nice to come back after a day of exploring the city and just get a drink at the bar and enjoy the view.
The staff is VERY friendly and tries to fulfill everything you wish for. Rooms are very clean and comfortable.
Only thing we did not like that much was the bathroom, which was not as modern as the rest of the lodge.
Wi-Fi is free of charge, but very slow.

Room Tip: Superior rooms with a balcony have an amazing view. Book a room that is not next to the kitchen as i...

Great view from the deck area of Cape Town.

The room was small, but clean and tidy. The shower/basin mechanism as interesting but functional. There's only 1 bedside table which makes means you just have stuff everywhere.

After asking for the wifi password 3 times without success we successfully accosted another guest. It was so useless (couldn't upload a 100k file) and could barely check online mail we shouldn't have bothered.

The parking is very tight and not enough of it so hope you're a good parker in the rental car that feels all weird.

Very Clean and i could see amazing cape town view from my room. Literaly amazing view. You dont need to take up to signal hill where known as night view or sunrise view point. Your room is the view point.
Noise cancellation quite not good between room and room. Some night i could hear some noisy from other room. Otherwise, excellent lodge. Would like to visit again .
