This is a funky hotel but requires front desk training. I’ll start with the positives.
Large size beds, good aircon and wifi, secure onsite parking at a reasonable rate of R60, the breakfast experience is great, good service, lovely omelettes and a nice spread. Centrally located and a fantastic Client Relations Manager.
The down side.
Small rooms and small bathrooms with poor sound proofing from the corridors, so some nights were noisy with people screaming or laughing in the corridors.
I booked a special through the Marriott app, but the reception did not know about it nor did they apply the discount. Despite my protests, I was continuously brushed off. Only after raising a complaint with Marriott, did the front desk bother to look into it, and then admitted their error.
After checking out and settling my bill, my holding deposit was kept for a full week before being released. I called the hotel a few times to query, not one of the people who promised to investigate actually called me back.

Room tip: They play very load music at reception on weekends, so ask for a room on a higher level

I spent 14 days here for Business and all 14 days were comfortable. Very Modern décor. Breakfast was great. Opt for the larger room with Breakfast. Patio, gym, pool, lobby and bar area were all very relaxing. Staff was excellent and friendly. Will stay here again next time I am in town. Bed and pillows did not hurt my neck or back like some hotels.

Room tip: Breakfast was Great. Staff and service was Great. Nice gym and pool. Relaxing lobby and bar area with outdoor patio. Very New and Modern.

We were here for one night on our way to Stellenbosch. The decor is fantastic very funky, artistic and young. Food ok, the service can be slow. I feel the amenities can be better whilst it’s a basic style room, it was felt that some necessary aspects were poor I.e. the design of the bath cubicles which if sharing the room with people you would t undress in-front of can be a problem. Thanks

We stayed for 7 nights at the Fire and Ice Hotel. On arrival we found the decor ultra-modern, not usually our cup of tea, but we got used to it.
The room was unusual, in that the shower and sink were in the bedroom, but the toilet was separate, so at least some privacy there!
The room was clean and the bed comfortable, with good quality linens and towels.
We had everything we needed including tea and coffee making facilities, TV, and hairdryer, but the toiletries were a bit meagre, with just soap, body lotion and shampoo/bodywash, but no shower cap or conditioner provided.
We enjoyed our breakfasts, which were well presented with plenty of choice, and a very jolly omelette chef! We also had dinner in the hotel several evenings, where we were impressed with the delicious and very reasonably priced buffet and wines.
The staff were all extremely efficient and helpful, especially Sharleen, who gave us very good advice and helped us book tours to Robben Island and Aquila Game Reserve, both excellent tours.
We found the location OK, we walked to the museums, Garden area, but took taxis to the V & A Waterfront, where there are many shops and restaurants.

Room tip: The pool is very small! We were advised not to walk around Cape Town at night, so we usually ate in the hotel, which was fine.

The Protea Fire & Ice does belong to the Marriott Group and is located approximately 3km away from the Waterfront. It is located in a relatively safe area and you have some restaurants and bars in walking distance at the Kloof St. The Hotel it’s elves need a makeover, especially the rooms are not any longer state of the art. The personal is very friendly and helpful, breakfast offers everything you need. Anyhow, I would recommend a Hotel more near to the Waterfront, or Seapont.
