We ate at the Mount Nelson on a Sunday when they host their Jazz Brunch. The hotel is a five or ten minute cab ride from the V&A Waterfront depending on the traffic. The hotel is what I would describe as colonial style and the Oasis Bistro is set at the back of the hotel near the pool and the luscious gardens. The brunch is accompanied by a jazz duo, who tastefully jam away in the garden area as you eat.
Our table was on the terrace, which I think was more pleasant than indoors, however it didn’t feel crowded anywhere in the restaurant. The buffet itself looked almost too manicured to eat, although that thought doesn’t last too long when you stand before it. Everything was on offer from salads, seafood/shellfish, roast meats, curries, vegetables, dessert etc. The selection was absolutely extensive and the quality was outstanding. The sparkling wine and rose we chose were also very drinkable. The overall service from entering the hotel to the staff at the Oasis Bistro was highly attentive and professional.
We stayed in Cape Town for nine nights and ate here on our second day. We loved it so much that we tried to reserve a table for the following weekend, however we were too late. If you are thinking of eating here, book early enough to avoid disappointment. I certainly left with the impression that quality was more important than feeding large numbers of guests. As a final note, the meal is exceptionally good value for money.
