I would recommend this hotel for travellers staying in cape town. The building is fantastic and the hotel offers all the amenities that you would expect for a hotel in this price range. It is well situated and even is just across the road from a bus stop on the tourist bus route. The rooms are excellently sized and well decorated. The courtyard which the hotel looks onto is truly picture perfect and the staff are friendly.

The pool area is under-utilised but Cape town is a place where you spend most of your time out of the hotel so this is unimportant. The breakfast is pleasant and whilst i can't comment on the restaurant as i didn't eat there during my stay it seemingly had a good atmosphere and was popular and no doubt is excellent as well.

My one disappointment with the hotel was the lack of communication with me regarding noise disturbances. I don't want this review to sound negative but i feel i needed to raise the points below.

Upon our arrival at the hotel we were not told that there was going to be a bore hole drilled outside our window (3 feet away) for the first two days of our stay. This must have been a large investment project and must have been planned well in advance of our visit.

Whilst i am sympathetic to the water crisis in cape town and have no issue with the hotel drilling a bore hole to ensure their water supply i was a bit disappointed this was not communicated in advance. There was no mention of this building work upon prior to arrival in South Africa or even upon check in aside from a note slipped under our bedroom door. It would be nice to be told about the work in person and feel this should be standard practice in a high end hotel. I would not have cared about the drilling as i understand the hugely concerning water plight of Cape town and understand that it was essential work but i felt a bit let down by the communication of hotel management.

The poor communication was compounded when the drilling was extended by a further day and our only notice was a written note posted under our door. It would have been nice to have been told in person about the extension and in most hotels some form of gesture would have been given for the inconvenience not matter how small.

I would not have mentioned the above issue had it not been for a wedding taking place a few days later in the courtyard that sits in the centre of the hotel. Again a note was placed under the door on the day of the wedding to explain that it may be noisy that night.

Given that the wedding disco was hosted in the courtyard which every room looks onto, it was no surprise it was incredibly noisy. The window pains actually vibrated in our bathroom. Again i am pleased the couple seemed to have a good wedding and i just headed out for the evening into Cape town so it didn't adversely affect me. The hotel has a function room which was not utilised for the wedding reception and i just feel that another establishment would not allow a wedding to take place in location it did without exclusively being booked out to wedding guests.

Overall however winchester mansions is a great hotel and i would recommend it to other guests. I hope that these comments can be taken on board so that guests feel a bit more valued in the future.

Good Luck and prosperity in the future

The first and only time I visited this old queen was for dinner in 1974 and I have ever since looked for the right opportunity to book a room here. The Winchester mansions certainly proved to be classic elegance in every respect and is a wonderful base away from home. The location is great and the breakfasts in the garden courtyard are memorable. The the complimentary V&A Waterfront shuttle is a welcome touch and there is little that can beat watching the awesome sunsets over the Atlantic, Signal Hill Paraglider's hovering before they land on the promenade lawn and the bustle of promenade pedestrians and traffic while enjoying sundowners and snacks at Harveys Bar and Restaurant.

We arrived at the hotel and we weren't disappointed. Having never been to SA before we didn't really know what to expect. The reception staff were efficient and friendly. Room was comfortable and clean. The hotel was situated directly across the road from stop 11 on the hop on hop off buses which was also very convenient. We actually walked down to the V and A waterfront but it is about 45 mins I think, but we enjoyed doing it. The courtyard garden where you have breakfast is very pretty with the Bougainvillea climbing up the columns.
Enjoyed our stay and would use this hotel again if we ever manage to get back to Cape Town. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so enjoyable.

Situated on the seafront we stayed at this friendly hotel for a week in March 2018.
Bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was in the lovely central courtyard with a good selection of hot and cold food. The A La Carte restaurant is good and Harveys Bar (looking over the seafront) provides excellent bar meals, and a nice spot for a drink after a day's sightseeing.
Its about 45 mins to walk to the V&A waterfront but the hotel provide a free transfer to and from the V&A, takes no more than 5 mins.
We booked a couple of day trips and the operator picked up from the hotel which was convenient.
The staff were probably the most helpful & friendliest I have come across in a hotel. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

My friend and I recently spent 6 nights in the Winchester, I had stayed before many years ago and wished to return, it could not have been better, the light snack was more of a meal, delicious, as were the breakfasts everyday and the one dinner had in the hotel, everything was clean, and the staff were great, Linda on reception who helped us with out flight check in on our last night was amazing and we had a good laugh with her and the lady the following morning on reception she too was amazing, so thank you Winchester Mansions for a lovely week, despite water restrictions all was good, I certainly hope to return again in the future.
