Great Location

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 07 Jan 2025
The hotel is good enough. We stayed in building 2 and it was definitely a bit like a dorm room in a sense. But it was reasonable, clean, and comfortable. The location is unbeatable - we walked to the Waterfront every day and loved it!

Breakfast was incredible - tons of selection and friendly staff helping.

We stayed over the New Year's break so the school was out of session.
Date of stay: January 2025
Room Tip: Sounds like buildings 1 & 3 are the preferred choices.

The rooms are very large and have everything you need for your stay. I can’t say enough about the staff very friendly and helpful
The breakfast that was included in your stay was great. Lots of different options and you could get a take away box if you were still hungry. Someone was always cleaning If you are going to stay in Cape Town this is a must. Great value for your money

We had a very nice stay at the Protea. Location was perfect for walking to dinner, going for a walk or run along the water, and walking or taking an uber to cape town’s many attractions. Our room was comfortable and clean, Best of all was a very well priced and excellent massage at Relax Spa in the hotel. Don’t skip a massage if you can fit it in. Yvonne was great. Best to tip in cash, if possible.

Room tip: Get a massage

Perhaps the worst hotel (and most expensive) that I have stayed at. Attached to the university of Cape Town business school. Converted from a prison and with many remaining features including the lack of comfort and decor. My room was bleak and bathroom was more like student accommodation than a hotel for business. No gym or pool.

Room tip: Stay elsewhere if you can.

We stayed here for five nights. I can't fault anything about this hotel. Location, rooms, staff, restaurant are all absolutely brilliant!

For a first time family visit to Cape Town I totally recommend and I'll look here first when booking for next time.

Room tip: Right in the V&A area, very safe to walk to and from V&A attractions, and right near the start of the hop on hop off bus.

Check-in was not so organized for our group and initially I was given a room in building 2, very far even got lost, could not find elevator had to walk down 2 flights of stairs with a torn right knee meniscus. Asked to change room, they could only find me a smaller room - than what I had paid for, but at least it was in main building. Location is very good, just a few minutes walk to the waterfront, breakfast good, staff very pleasant, housekeeping very good, rooms very nice.

Room tip: If you want to stay close to the Waterfront, I highly recommend.
