I visited the Mount Nelson for a week in December, and everything was simply perfect! My room was in the main building, and it was very interesting to stay in such a historic hotel. The breakfast was delicious (pretty much everything one could ask for) and the afternoon tea was also a wonderful experience. The hotel is on the pricey side, but it was worth every penny!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the Main Building.

Our 3 night stay was arranged as part of a tour through AHI travel. The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom was huge and seemed to have been recently remodeled in the traditional style of the hotel. It overlooked the pool and gardens, two floors above the breakfast restaurant.
Breakfast was included and it was the most extensive buffet I've ever seen. Eggs cooked to order, sausage, bacon, ham, potatoes, waffles, salmon, a huge assortment of fruits, pastries and breads.
We asked for a couple of firm pillows and they were promptly delivered. The staff was very professional.

Room Tip: The hotel has expanded over the years and there are several separate buildings and the main one has several wings.

Rooms were recently refurbished so if you can get one of those you’re in good luck. Beautiful spacious rooms. Some have the most gorgeous views of the cape mountains. Hotel breakfast is . Gym is . Pool is . There are two pools: one more hidden away if you want a more quiet day. Service is . Everything is .

Friendly but impersonal service and away to stressful. Not enough time for enjoying the food and sweets. Only 2 hours seating ! Classic hotel, little oldfashioned for my taste.
Quite nice food and a lot of sweets on buffet. Not comfortable feeling to go here solo unfortunately. Expensive MCC!
Will try another hotel next time in Cape Town.

Thank you for your review - interestingly many people do find it quite comfortable to enjoy Afternoon Tea solo as there is so much to look at that they don't feel alone.

What a nice experience - will certainly recomend the afternoon tea. Beautiful garden, relaxed atmosphere - great service and last but not least - the large caketable will indeed satisfy all your needs. The house teablend - gives you a perfect match - my favourite.
Take a nice walk in the garden and enjoy the beautiful flowers and old trees - some of them from 1850-60. Will be back .
