Went with family who had been there before. Their choice was excellent. I had a fillet steak which was cooked exactly the way I requested and was as good as I have ever eaten. Service was vey good and staff very friendly. The prices and wine selection were excellent. Will certainly go back.

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for your visit and excellent review.

Please convey our heartfelt thanks to your family who recommended you to us. Word-of-mouth recommendations like these means a lot to us.
Thank you especially for your compliments about the fillet steak. We go to great lengths to import the very best free-range Namibian beef fillet we can find. While our hand made pasta is still the core of our business, we are very proud to serve top quality grilled beef, chicken and fresh fish.

Thank you again for your compliments. We appreciate it immensely and we look forward to welcoming you back.

This is a classic Italian restaurant in Sea Point, with great atmosphere once the locals arrive (about 7.30pm) for dinner. Top quality food at South African prices - excellent!

Ate here whilst on a tour of South Africa as an escape from hotel food. A very busy restaurant, obviously popular with locals. The food was very good indeed, comparable with meals in Rome three weeks earlier. Good wine selection and excellent friendly service, despite being busy.

You are right, we do get incredibly busy sometimes, something we are very grateful for, despite being a handful to manage at times!

Thank you for your positive feedback about the food, the service and our wine selection. We do appreciate it when customers notice the hard work we put into our little restaurant.

We look forward to seeing you back at Goloso.

My first visit since the upgrade a good few months ago. There certainly has been an improvement on the general look but the tables are quite small esp if four diners are seated. It is a small restaurant so I guess that is the reason. If was fully booked the evening I was there and loud and pumping.

Service is slow. Annoyingly, people seated after us got their meal before us. Pasta... Why? Basically the medium sized pastas were over-sauced in the South African way, all three dishes. The salad was a very basic lettuce mix, no real imagination used.

The wine list is very unexceptional and all South African... A few Italian wines would be a nice addition to the Italian feel. Decent bread too. The olive oil was gorgeous and the best part of the whole experience!

Thank Michael L

Dear Guest

Thank you for your visit and review.

We are glad you feel our major revamp, completed a mere two months ago, is an improvement. We have made a major commitment to improve the look and feel of the restaurant and this has been met with universal praise from all our regulars.

I do apologise that service seemed slow on the night of your visit. As you noted, we were full to capacity at the time. Please understand that the vast majority of our trade are walk-in customers, as we normally get very few advance bookings which would allow us to plan the seating times better and alleviate the pressure on the kitchen to a large extent. It is simple mathematics that when a large number of guests arrives at the same time, it will result in a longer than usual wait for food.
Also please be aware that we do not cook in advance, 99% of our menu is cooked from scratch "to order". The age old saying of "good food takes time" rings very true in this case.

You are right that our pastas are a little "over sauced". Please understand that we have a very large local following, and that most local palates seem to prefer a saucier pasta compared to the traditional "dryer" Italian way. We have tried in the past to offer a more authentic sauce to pasta ratio, but 9 out of 10 times this resulted in the dish being sent back for being "too dry" or lacking in sauce. We realise we are not in Italy but in South Africa, and if this is how our customers prefer their pasta, we have no choice but to tweak the ratios a little to keep them happy. Believe me from a business owner point of view, the sauce is the major cost component of the dish, and I'd be only too happy if we could reduce the sauce content. But ultimately the customer is king in my house, and we try to give them what they want.
On your next visit, please feel free to ask for the sauce to pasta ratio to be reduced, and we will be very happy to comply.

I'm sorry that you weren't impressed by our "lettuce mix" at the time. Please understand that South Africa is experiencing a severe drought at the moment. This has affected our farmers and suppliers incredibly badly, and it is currently a real challenge to consistently find quality fresh fruit and vegetables. We make a very concerted effort to try and find the best possible produce on a daily basis, even if this means buying from far away suppliers at great cost to ourselves.
I trust when the drought passes we will be able to get more "imaginative" lettuce on a consistent basis.

I'm disappointed that you feel our wine list is "unexceptional". A lot of time and effort went into compiling our wine list, which currently lists over 40 different wines from over 30 different estates spanning all the major wine producing areas of South Africa. Aside from a very upmarket fine-dining establishment around the corner from us, we have by far the most comprehensive wine list of any restaurant in the immediate area, despite being in Sea Point, the heart of the Jewish community with traditionally a non wine drinking clientele.
Every wine on our list has been personally selected by myself for it's quality, relevance to our type of cuisine and good value for money. We do change our wine list regularly according to customer requests and new offerings in the market.
You are quite right, apart from French Champagne, we do not offer international wines on our wine list. The simple reasons are that with our current poor exchange rate, even the most basic Italian wine becomes virtually un-affordable to our local clientele. Couple this to the fact that most wine drinking tourists prefer to drink South African wines on their South African visit, this has led to virtually zero demand for imported wines, and us such we have stopped listing international wines.
Had you looked carefully at our wine list, you may have noticed that in our special "owners selection" section we do currently have two different very good quality Italian wines for anybody who feels they want to drink an Italian wine in South Africa.
I can assure you that should the demand for international wines increase, we will be very quick to respond with the best available offerings we can find.

Lastly, thank you for praising our olive oil. It is a top quality extra-virgin oil produced for us by a local estate from a blend of local and Spanish olive oils, and we continue to serve this along with imported balsamic and freshly baked olive ciabatta to our customers on a complimentary basis.

Again thank you for your visit and feedback. We take your comments on board and will strive to improve our offering, which hopefully will reflect at your next visit to Goloso.

Kind regards

Dear guest

Thank you for your visit and review.

I apologise that you experienced a long wait for your food on the night of your visit. As you noted, we can get extremely busy, and when it so happens that a lot of unexpected tables arrive within a short space of time, it does slow down the delivery of food as there is simply a massive amount of dishes to cook at the same time. Also we do not cook in advance, 99% of the items on our menu is made from scratch "to order", to ensure the freshest possible presentation and the best quality.
Outside of peak times our food delivery is normally consistently fast, so please forgive us for struggling a bit when a crowd suddenly descends upon us unannounced.

We do take your feedback on board, and we are busy making some changes to further streamline our operations in order to better cope with a sudden unexpected influx of customers.

Thank you again for your feedback. We look forward to seeing you back at Goloso.

Regards
