Always a great place for a family outing. The stretch of beach is lovely for picnics, building sandcastles, a play area for the kiddies, and further down the beach , towards the old Glencairn station, is a "dog friendly" section, where the dogs can play , romp and enjoy some frisbee action !There is a super Restaurant, called the Galley, which has a smart restaurant,(Run by friendly German , called Herbie) and also a more casual Bistro for the beach lovers who want to pop in for icecreams (soft serve from heaven) and light meals.Watch out for the "SHARK ALERT" flags, and only swim in the designated areas. From Fish hoek beach you can enjoy a view of Elsie's Peak and Ranger Ridge(that's them in the background of the tripadvisor pic).
There are usually lifeguards on duty over the weekends, and if you want to avoid being charged to enter the carpark, park on the main rd and walk a short distance, and get in for free !! It's wheelchair friendly, and there is a lovely walk, called Jaeger's Walk which is accessable for baby strollers and wheelchairs, with benches along the way in case you need to rest and just simply enjoy the view !! On a clear day you can see right across the False bay as far as Gordon's Bay and Hangklip. The next suberb to Fish Hoek Beach is Kalk Bay, where you can catch a water taxi to Simon's town, (weather permitting). That's where Kalkies , the fish and chip shop is, but that's another review !.......................
Life-guards are on patrol, as well as shark spotters to protect everybody swimming at Fish Hoek Beach. The beach is usually not overcrowded, but during the Summer holidays it can become overcrowded. Parking is a available and the train station a few minutes walk from the beach. Best time to go is early morning.
This is a clean, easily accessible beach, with lots of parking and very good restaurants right there. Fish Hoek main road is 2-5 minutes walk away if you would rather prefer the standard take-away options.
Well I live in Kommetjie, so Fish Hoek beach is very close to where we stay. The swimming area is designated, with Lifeguards on duty. The beach has a special area where well behaved socialised dogs can have a good romp !Lots of Bistros and "Eateries" as well as a kiddie play area. Nice place for families with kids
Fish Hoek is just the right length- long enough to get some exercise but short enough to feel completely safe and visible. The water is warm by Cape Town Standards and there is a lovely playground for the children just in front of the beach. The Beach restaurant is not terribly exciting or sophisticated, but probably compliments the laid back, family feel of the town of Fish Hoek.
The board walk is glorious to walk along.
