As a frequent traveller to cape town i have noticed a down turn in cafe Manhattan. i have been coming to this venue for the past 18 years. over the past few years i have noticed that the venue looks very tired and is in need of some refurbishment. the toilets stink, and there is a terrible smell of sick emanating from the bar area . i ordered some chicken wings which were definitely not fresh. the team were very friendly if not a little pushy when it came to drink sales. come on guys don't let this bar fall foul to these reviews and sort it out

You wouldn't know this is a gay bar unless you looked around closely. It is a really nice spot in downtown Capetown; great place for a meal or a beer. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The staff are really helpful, and do a great job.

Was very friendly place. Went during happy hour and got 2 for 1 drinks and great food specials. Sits at a busy intersection, lots of people watching.

I accept this may well be my own fault.... After previous visits and, with good reason after labelling the place the 'trashiest dive in Cpt', swearing never to return, once again my arm is twisted and I'm forced to meet local friends there.
Why oh why?!
The food was even worse than my previous visit. The staff - at least this time not properly 'wired' on whatever as per my last visits - are sadly still quite incompetent at the most basic of duties.
There's a storage paradox....one one side people trying to eat at what they thought was a restaurant.....on the other (at the bar and by the outside terrace), shouting screaming drunk hooligan behaviour.
Are you are restaurant? Are you a club? Failing miserably at both I'm sorry to say.
And the best part of the night....being held up at knifepoint on the way back to our car in a few streets down.
Nice.
Never again.
Harrington Street offers a great alternative to safe, fun nightlife in Cape Town.
Sorry De Waterkant. Times have changed, things have moved on.
Manhattan's....make place for something better. Your time there is far passed done.
Sorry 'bout it.

What a shame that such an awesome place has gone downhill. They have lost their character. The food is also insanely expensive.
