“Nice place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2017 via mobile

We had a nice lunch and diner at Manhattan. Very relaxed atmosphere and diverse crowd. Boy waiters often serving you without a shirt. Food is ok. Nice and sunny veranda.

“Insane price increases!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2017

Not one to moan about a price increase, but was recently made aware of the price increases when the menus changed by other friends who were also regulars(like more than twice a week type regulars).

Burger, Fries & Onion Rings used to cost R75, it now costs a whopping R140. Keep the salad, I'm not dieting...

I absolutely love the staff and vibe there, but this is more of a bar than a restaurant, the food is convenient when popping over for a drink and the food is nowhere near amazing.

I thought it may still be worthwhile having a drink there, but found out the cost of a pint of Peroni went up from R35 to R49.

I certainly won't be back and hope you guys make it through winter!

“RIP OFF”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2017

been going to this place for years and was really shocked recently to discover a 60% increase on the food menu. To add to that the portions are smaller. You now pay for sides as extra. It's now so expensive that it's actually cheaper to go to a proper steak house restaurant like the hussar grill or nelsons eye and get better food, bigger portions and an honest great service.

To add insult to injury the bar staff are always trying to rip off the customers by over charging for drinks. As soon as they think you are a tourist they will try to rip you off.

Most of my friends are now refusing to go here and will go elsewhere.

“We love atmosphere and the people”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2017

We have been to Café Manhattan several times and love the atmosphere. The choices of food is very good and the drinks area excellent. The only issue sometimes the service is slower than normal but it is worth the wait. A must in Cape Town

“RIP OFF”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2017

I have been told this place is struggling, but the latest cost cutting measure is really bad news. The burgers here used to be excellent, however our " meal" yesterday was something else. Used to be around 90 rand for burger, chips and onion rings. Now it's 90 rand just for the burger and what they say is a side salad, ( one small tomato cut in half and a bit of lettuce ) if you want chips and onion rings it's an extra 60 rand making 150 rand for exactly what you used to get for 90 rand. That is far too much of an increase in price for the same meal. More cost cutting is the bun, it's now a very small, thin, soggy bun. There are lots of gay friendly restaurants around. Why do we gays allow these people to rip us off. Manhatten isn't really a friendly place anyway. The bar itself is never busy, everyone in there are with their own company, sat at tables and never interact with anyone else. They tried last year to get more money out of customers by raising the corkage to 100 rand, that didn't work and they soon put it back to 50 rand. Best advise is to avoid this place. We shouldn't have to be ripped off in such a manner. If it's burgers you like Hudsons or Mama Roccos ( no courage charge ) Green point, are better options, and very friendly places.
