Description: Dash Restaurant & Bar is the jewel in the crown of the Queen Victoria Hotel, which is situated in the Portswood Precinct near the Waterfront, Cape Town. An intimate restaurant, with just 36 seats, serves the most delicious food, as testified by its constant rave reviews. It prides itself on only using the best and freshest ingredients, to chime with the Cape’s seasons. The dishes at Dash change every few weeks, when new ingredients become available. Early diners are welcomed to relax in the swanky bar area for a cocktail and take in impressive views of Table Mountain and the city. Dash has an impressive and exceptionally well chosen wine list and the walls boast some remarkable artwork, kindly loaned by the restaurant’s prestigious gallery neighbour, Everard Read, and this is also changed every few months with new work by renowned local artists, such as Beezy Bailey and John Meyer.

What a surprise this place turned out to be. Tucked away at the Waterfront, no easy task to find but once you do the experience is quality with a capital Q. The room is stunning with artwork and a fireplace to set an ambiance for a great dining experience. Our waiter was knowledgable with the menu, explaining the nuances of every dish, and allowed us to go in our own directions ordering from the menu. Highly recommend. Thanks Mr. B. Venison was exquisite, and presentation of the meals was outstanding. We will be back. Such a great and memorable dining experience.

The stage looked very attractive for the evening meal and the staff were excessively helpful as we were led to the table for our special occasion. Maybe the Maitre D and the staff knew what was in store.
The starters were just above cold and the prawn tempura was soggy not crisp and hot as it should be. Having informed the waiter of the problem he passed the message back to the kitchen.
The main courses of lamb and fillet steak arrived - again everything on the plate was just above cold and the meals were returned to be re-heated.
The chef obviously has no intention of taking advice from the customer and his culinary skills are also lacking.
The final straw was the sight of a rat, scurrying along the outside balcony on five occasions. Thankfully the glass doors were closed and it did not enter the restaurant.
Things will have to change dramatically for us to reconsider ever visiting the Dash again. If this restaurant is rated number 17 out of 910 in Cape Town on TripAdvisor, the others must be in dire straits.

Unfortunately, I can not begin to explain the decor, the food, the service or anything that should be ideally reviewed since I had been sitting in a chair that was heavily stained by female menstruation for the duration of my lunch.
Having just returned, my trousers are heavily stained with blood and there is clearly no need for further description or detail. One of the most horrific and totally disgusting experiences of my entire life. I can not recount the number of restaurants that I have visited all over the globe from low budget, to fast food, to fine dining without experiencing anything close to this - never should anyone have to experience this level of filth and it occurred in a restaurant regarded as "fine dining" in Cape Town. Totally Shameful.

The food in Cape Town in general was quite good but our evening meal at Dash was one of our highlights whilst in Cape Town.

We were staying at the hotel so no issue finding it but if you're not it's basically perched up on the hill from the V&A Hotel. Great atmosphere and wasn't overly busy when we arrive at around 8pm. The service was exceptional and they have quite a reasonable wine selection. The food was amazing with my venison full of flavor and cooked to perfection.

We had high expectations after reading glowing reviews of the food but we were disappointed.
The food although plated attractively, lacked a depth of flavour and finesse as expected of a restaurant at a five star establishment. It was mediocre only to say the best. I think the chef would take the hint after all the uneaten food sent back from our group.
Service was ok although I was addressed as "Sir". Weird...
if you are in the neighborhood and thinking of trying , maybe check again ?
