Owner description: The Footsteps to Freedom walking tour of the historic heart of Cape Town tells the story of Cape Town and its people. We use streets, buildings, monuments, memorials and the passing street-scene as props develop a story of Cape Town and South Africa's dramatic past. Stories of Dutch and British colonial rule, slavery and apartheid, and finally our peaceful transition to a real democracy. We gather before 10h30 (Mon-Sat) in the lobby of the Taj Cape Town Hotel, located in centre of Cape Town's cultural and historic precinct. At 10h30 the 2½ hr walking tour starts from the steps of the Bishop Robert Gray Memorial, adjacent Taj Cape Town hotel.

What a fabulous way to spend a few afternoon hours in Cape Town. Ivor led us on a wonderful tour of the downtown and through the history of apartheid. Would definitely recommend to others planning a trip to Cape Town.

This walking tour was a fantastic introduction to the history of Cape Town from the early Dutch settlers through the recent struggles against Apartheid and release of Nelson Mandela to the present
Ivor was very knowledgeable about everything from architecture to plant life and answered all our questions, and had suggestions for further visits

We went to Cape Town on our honeymoon and our local travel agent (Timeless African Safari) highly suggested this tour. They arranged a private tour for us with Garth Angus.

The tour was a highlight of our trip. Garth was very approachable and knowledgable and because it was a private tour, he found out what our interests were and focused the tour on those interests.

For the tour we walked all around the historical Cape Town area, hearing about the rich history of Cape Town and South Africa, and then had lunch in the Company's Garden. It was truly memorable and we learned so much through this tour! We will definitely repeat when we return next!

Professor Ivor charmed, entertained and enlightened our group of 10. His detailed knowledge, story-telling finesse, and his cosmopolitan subtlety & wit kept coming and coming. Don't be in a hurry with this gem!

Ivor lead us on a fascinating tour through historic Cape Town, sharing his love of the city and his in depth knowledge of its history. The 2.5 hours flew by, and we came away with a real appreciation for the diversity and history of this beautiful city. It was a great way to start our visit, and I would highly recommend this tour.
