We met Garth for a private tour at the Mount Nelson hotel (a landmark in itself) where we chatted about background, interests, knowledge etc and as a result I think Garth amended our tour a little to match.

Garth”s approach worked perfectly for us as each event in SA was put into the context of world events which were often connected. We had a shortish and easy walking tour learning all the time - and I’m still thinking about some of the things we discussed.

This was the 1st thing we did on our 2 week tour of SA and I can’t think of a bette way to start.

Thanks Garth - you got our holiday off to a great start and I have no hesitation in recommending your tour.

We did this as a private tour and were collected from our hotel and taken to sit in the shade at the historic Mount Nelson Hotel to hear a brief overview of South Africa’s history to the present day. Garth Angus was our excellent guide as he broke the history down into 4 separate chapters. He wove South Africa’s history with the UK, Netherlands, Germany and how it related to events in America. He was happy to answer any questions. We then undertook a walking tour through Company Gardens where he pointed out various museums, statues etc. We ended up at Green Market Square where there are local African artefacts for sale. An excellent introduction to Cape Town and well worth doing.

Garth is one of the most knowlegable guides one could wish for. He explains the history and evolution of SA brilliantly. He is a patient teacher - and makes the statues and buildings come alive as you pass them.

Ivor is the consummate professional, whose warm personality and intimate knowledge of South Africa’s history provided us with a comprehensive picture of where South Africa in particular Cape Town. Its’ rich history, comes to life as we strolled through the heart of the city. From the Nelson Hotel to City Hall and many stops in between we learned about the good, the bad and the ugly times of apartheid and the fight for freedom. All of this was covered in this wonderful walking tour. This is a definite must do if your visiting Cape Town.

Ahh .. I can just imagine the smile on Ivor's face when he sees this review. Ivor has the advantage that he has lived through much of the story we tell on our tour, he has the benefit of personal stories, and wisdom that comes with Time! Thanks you so much Laurence.
