I had dinner here one night in August and had an outstanding sushi dinner (the chef's special - the chef, I was told, is from Tokyo). The oysters tempura, which I had never tried before, was delightful. The house wine was quite good, and the restaurant was sleekly furnished and attractive. The only negative was the service, which needs to be stepped up a couple of notches. On the whole, however, a nice choice if you are looking for a very tasty sushi meal in Cape Town.

What meant to be a special birthday evening, turned out to be in a very expensive disappointment.
For South African standards, the portions were very small, the actual size of the sushi could hardly been seen on the plate; that small!! Good thing the windows and doors were closed otherwise it would've been blown away. The taste of the sushi was average. Nothing special at all. The Nori (seaweed) was that tuff, that it was difficult to eat. Not to be recommended.
The food other than sushi was found better in taste but again the portions were small and also overpriced.

We had a wonderful meal at Kyoto. The service was attentive and the owner came over and chatted with us. The pace of the meal was perfect and we were pleased that we chose this place. It's not a huge restaurant so I would recommend making a booking as it was packed by the time we were partially through our dinner.

Service was rude, unhelpful, unaccomodating and snooty. Food was good but completely overpriced. I won't go back there.

We went as a family to celebrate my son's 25th birthday, and were blown away by the quality of the food. We treated ourselves to toro, the rich, buttery tuna which was quite sublime with the most wonderful texture and flavour, combined with the best wasabi we have ever had. Other standout dishes were the udon noodles and the tempura. The plum wine was also magnificent. The decor was understated in a lovely Japanese way and the service was impeccable. All this comes at a price, however, yet I am happy to pay these prices for the quality of the experience.
