Description: Steeped in over 300 years of history, the former guard house, tea room, hotel and the hunting lodge of Lord Charles Somerset has been elegantly restored with the charm and sophistication of the Grand Old Cape. The style of cuisine at The Roundhouse is uncomplicated, contemporary French, inspired by seasonal ingredients and paired with one of the finest boutique wine collections in South Africa.

Going to The Roundhouse for the 8 course with wine pairing was an absolutely fabulous experience.
The staff catered to our every need from the moment we arrived. They were friendly and discrete.
The food was phenomenal, every plate thoughtfully constructed and a work of art.
Every dish was explained and paired with wine that complimented it.
The venue itself was lovely, the open fireplace warmed the whole room and a fabulous sunset view over Camps Bay.
I would recommend this culinary experience as one for the bucket list.

We booked a private lunch with wine pairing for 22 people. They have a great deal in winter where you can book out the restaurant for a set minimum spend. Their events coordinator, Memory, is lovely to work with and both the Chef and Sommelier are very accommodating. You can always rely on The Roundhouse for great service and it was a real pleasure to see what great care and attention they took of our guests. The restaurant has gorgeous views over Campsbay, even in winter, and they made sure our guests walked into a cozy, comfortable dining room. We've chosen this restaurant for birthdays, anniversaries, family gatherings and foreign visitors because of it's excellent food, interesting pairings, wonderful service team and charming setting... and we've always been glad we chose it!

The format of the restaurant has changed since the last time we were here. They now serve a fixed menu (although they are flexible about special diets) of four courses (I think there is a five-course option as well). The nice thing about having it all ordered in advance is that the food came promptly but with plenty of time for us to relax and enjoy it. The service was outstanding--so nice not to be hovered over, but at the same time if one wanted anything there was someone instantly there to learn what it was. The food was excellent, and although the portions seemed small at the beginning, by the end of the meal we were more than full (had to ask for the little biscuits and fudge that came as 'extras' at the end to be put in a doggie bag). Definitely a special place for a special occasion.

Went with friends on our last night in Cape Town after 2 weeks of pure travelling bliss.

Our friends found and booked the Roundhouse with us all being big fans of the tasting menu style that is popping up around the world.

The location is stunning with amazing views across the bay for the sunset - drinks on the terrace with the initial canapes started the evening off well.

The service is good but not exceptional and I suppose, this carried across to the food which again, was good but lacked an element of creativity that some of us had become used to.

For those who love a traditional style of tasting menu then this will suit them well but if you are more adventurous then either the Chefs Table in Cape Town or The Tasting Room in Franschhoek will be more your cup of tea.

This fascinating old hunting lodge has been around for about 300 years. One of its original owners was a male doctor who turned out to be a woman after his/her death. Fascinating story worthy of a book. The food is fantastic, even if a little overpriced.
