Ashanti Lodge Green Point is an excellent choice for young or solo travelers and offers both single/double rooms and communal hostel rooms. The decor is modern and light, and the beds are comfortable.
Some of the rooms have an en-suite bathroom, but otherwise the communal bathrooms are clean and neat and still to a degree private - the showers are individual showers that are in a closed 'room' with a door, so it's not like gym showers or 'normal' communal showers.
Ashanti has a small communal kitchen that can be used for self-catering. The fridge is also communal (no freezer), and space can be a bit of an issue, but people respect your stuff and I had no cases of food being taken or anything like that. Breakfast can be ordered for extra cost, but if you buy food yourself, the kitchen is equipped with a stove and microwave. The kitchen also has a small table where you can sit and eat, or alternatively you can sit outside in one of three areas - the front porch, the uppder deck or the pool area.
There is a computer for use in the communal room (I didn't inquire as to the cost), but wifi is available throughout the hostel, the signal is stronger in some areas and weaker in others.
Note: This lodge is not wheelchair compatible! There are a lot of stairs, and the stairs are all outside. Even to get to the second floor you have to take one of two outside staircases. This can be slippery when wet.
The lodge has partial sea view (room 18 and upper 'stoep'). It's central location ensures that you are close to many of the hotspots and public transport system. The Hop-on, Hop-off bus stops are also located within walking distance, and tickets are available at Ashanti. Other excursions can also be booked from Ashanti's counter.
Parking spots are limited and they are not behind fenced areas, so it basically amounts to street parking. It is right off the main street, so not a lot of traffic (foot or road) in the area. however, it is recommended that you not leave any valuables in plain sight. There are no shaded parkings available.
Overall the lodge was clean and cleaning staff regularly visited the rooms. The rooms are not really soundproof, so you can sometimes hear your neighbours when talking loudly or laughing. So if you are a light / early sleeper, have this in mind. No smoking is allowed in the rooms, but outside is allowed. Note that if you get room 18, people will tend to smoke right outside your window and 'kuier' there into the early hours.
