We really enjoyed the friendly informal atmosphere at this place. Our guesthouse recommended Ricks as it is very close by, and we had just arrived in Cape Town from the UK, so were too tired to venture far. We chose some tapas dishes to start followed by the Moroccan flavoured line fish, and the duck tagine. Portion sizes were generous, and everything was just as described on the menu. Waiters were all really charming and super-friendly. A lovely welcome to South Africa, and somewhere we will definitely go back to.

The food was good, the staff was friendly and the ambiance was very creative. The restaurant is based upon the movie Casablanca, but one could probably not develop a place further away in Africa from the place portrayed in the movie. That is perhaps the funny thing about this place. It is a fun place to eat, with very good food.

So I have always been a fan of Rick's. Been many times. There are more and more burger joints in Cape Town. I had not had a burger at Rick's for a while and so tried one again. Bad idea! Their signature burger is a BMB. the toppings were amazing but the burger was dense. Like the meat had been ground fine and then packed together. If this was all I was judging on, I would have given 2 stars

So that was the bad news. The ambiance, the service, the staff could not have been nicer. If this was all I was judging on, it would have been 5 stars.

You should be aware that parking in that area can be difficult

Dear Capie_Tours
Thank you for taking the time writing to Trip adviser. It makes us very happy that you enjoyed the service and the ambiance at Rick’s.
We always appreciate constructive criticism from our customers as it helps us to improve the “Rick’s” experience for everybody.
We normally buy our beef directly from a Beef Farmer in the Namaqua land (west coast) and it is free range, free of hormones, traceable and grass fed. But I remember that we had a problem last week with the beef mince we received. It was minced to fine. My executive chef only realized the problem after our Griller did prep and portioned most of it. We immediately put them aside to be send back to our supplier, but somehow ? it found it way back into the service fridge. I have to sincerely apologize for this mistake. This should not have happened!
We pride ourselves of our continuous good food standards. We don’t often get complaints and when we get one, we react immediately to make sure any shortcomings are rectified to the total satisfaction of our customers. Unfortunately, you did not mention it to your waiter nor the manager as we would have exchanged your faulty Burger immediately.
I hope we can welcome you soon again and that you have the chance to try our burgers again, I can promise you that you will be not disappointed.
With greetings Per & Team

We arrived early, hence all the warnings about a 45 minute wait and struggling to find parking nearby. No hassles at all. Amazing ambience, fantastic company and food. Massive portions, neither of us could finish our meals. We had the Traditional cheese beef burger, and two Popper beef burgers, but they were kind enough to swop the beef for me with chicken. For drinks, I don't usually like beer, but I had the Jack Black laager, oh my word, delicious. The waiters were all super friendly, and not hovering, which we really appreciated. To sum up the whole experience........ AMAZING!
