On 10 August 2017 we chose to celebrate my youngest son's marriage that morning & my late Dad's 102nd birthday at Rick's Café as this had been the venue for my son's first date with his lovely bride. Being an intimate group of only 7 people, we couldn't have chosen a better venue with the small rooms possessing stunning ambience and service levels from the incredibly friendly & polite staff being out of the top drawer. We enjoyed amazing mixed tapas followed by giant burgers and venison steaks, all beautifully prepared & presented. Definitely worth a visit, but be patient to find parking if you're visiting at lunch time!

The food offering remains good, as is the quality.
a half filled restaurant on the night we visited tells another story. meals have become very expensive. ie. lamb shank, on special at R198.!!
We will not go back.

Dear rrustler
Thank you for writing a review on TripAdvisor. We appreciate your comments about the good quality of the food and the selection. Unfortunately, your reasoning about our half full restaurant on a Monday night escapes us, as to your assumption that we are out pricing ourselves. You did order the most expensive dish on our daily special Menu …the Lamb shank. This is a 550g to 600g Shank from a Karoo Lamb and while you may pay less for it in the country side or the Wilderness, here in Cape Town unfortunately we do pay Top dollars for quality AAA Karoo Lamb (not Mutton). The price of it was mentioned on the Special board, but you could have ordered a 220g Lamb Koefte Burger for 1/2 the price too..??).
I would love to be able to show you the costing of prepared food for a restaurant to be able to survive in Cape Town CBD.
Have a great day

What a great find. Tucked away in a side street, not sure we'd have come across it ourselves but went with reviews on here and jumped in an Uber!
Fab restaurant with a great atmosphere and very friendly staff. We hadn't booked so had a table in the loft area which was comfortable and cosy. Arrived in time for happy hour which was a bonus and the Pineapple and passion fruit mojito went down a treat.
Service was good and food came quite quickly and was really tasty - we all had various burgers which were huge and meant we sadly had no room for dessert.
Would really recommend.

After struggling through Casablanca looking for Rick's as in the movie (or a facsimile thereof) and strangely not finding one, I finally found it in Cape Town.

Nothing like the movie but well decorated and with a nod toward the forties. No piano player though.

We had burgers and salads. All excellently prepared and massive. Good bar with a variety of beers. Wine list a bit limited. Great value. Wait staff were all friendly and helpful. I shall return as time goes by....
