On this first visit ever to Cape Town and South Africa, we did a lot of research on where we might stay, to have easy access to the important sights at a clean, safe place of international business standard -- at a reasonable value. As Marriott Gold loyalty club members from the States, we were also looking at the many Protea brand hotels in Cape Town. From what we could see from TA reviews, it seemed that we should stay in the Central Business District or the Waterfront area -- and we are so glad that we ended up at 15 on Orange! We requested a king-sized deluxe room with a Table Mountain view on a high floor; ended up with everything we requested except on the 3rd floor, and that turned out to be just fine -- a great room with a fabulous view.
The hotel physical design and amenities are highest standard, as others have said. The bedroom was huge with a seating area and coffee/tea/bar area. The bathroom is bigger than many hotel rooms elsewhere, nicely designed and separation of space, with double sinks, separate soaking tub and glassed in areas for large shower, wc, and even a sitting area -- all with full-on views of Table Mountain!
Sometimes when traveling at international standard chain hotels, one can feel like the hotel can be anywhere, but with Table Mountain right there, no question that this was Cape Town, RSA.
There are many excellent features about this hotel, but the very best thing is its location. Easy walking to everywhere a visitor would like to explore -- major sites such as Bo Kaap, Long Street, Green Market, Company Gardens, museums etc. Lots of great restaurants and night spots within an easy walk in a well-lit and busy, safe-feeling area. A stop for the Hop-On Hop-Off bus (Yellow line) is right outside the hotel driveway entrance and cabs are always around. The location was absolutely perfect for sightseeing.
Stayed five nights, and of course there were minor issues -- such as inconsistent replacement of towels and/or amenities on different days, disorganized front desk that was hard to reach at times, construction going on next door (nothing the hotel can do about that, but don't get a room on that side unless you want all the construction workers watching you). The internet mostly worked great, with occasional slowness. But these were all minor. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends.
