Went on a friday night and after hearing relative good things about the place i was a bit disapointed.. The main course i got, which was Kudu steak was just rather average.. not very tender and not really seasoned. My friend had some springbok which was better - but still not fantastic...

The house band on the other hand was really rather good..

Overall i would recommend that you go down to V&A waterfront for a better selection..

Expected a lot more - they could increase the ambience. Full of tour groups, have to get there early to get a seat. Found it very dark inside, too.

My husband and I had a great evening at Mama Africa. It's base in the heart of Long Street and is very popular so don't forget to book in advance! My Husband had the mixed African grill whicih is made up of crocodile, kudu, ostrich, springbok and a mixed meat sausage. This was really good and great for us tourists to try something a little different. The band played throughout the evening with traditional style African music which was just what we wanted. You can just drink at the bar but you are charged a small entertainment fee. Highly reccommended for all tourists!

Took some overseas friends here, hoping that they would get a great African experience. The food was mediocre and disappointing. Maybe there is more atmosphere at night when there is music playing but it is certainly lacking by day.

the live band was loud loud in your face. Couldn't talk to partner, nor guest, left as soon as possible.

but obviously doing something right - tuesday , 8.00pm and FULL .......rest of Long St empty !

As a local , not authentic , but safari-pseudo clothed , visitors enjoying.

Thought (cheeky)charge for live music - R 10 pp ( we were billed R 20 pp !) bit unusual..

Ear plugs essential ; Tinnitus sufferers - stay away !
