A friend and I stayed here for 5 days following a two week safari. The unit is on the top floor of a small apartment building with an elevator and an outdoor stairway, on a residential street a block away from Kloof Street. The building is secured by gates both at the street level and at the first floor entranceway, and there is also a closed gate when one exits the elevator or stairs, before entering the door of the apartment.
The apartment itself is a duplex. On the first floor is a fully equipped galley kitchen with a washer and dryer (really a welcome convenience after two weeks in the bush), a large dining area, a large living room with a tv, a 3 piece bath, a small den with a closet, a desk and a twin bed that can be closed off via pocket doors and a spacious master suite. Up a wooden spiral staircase is a delightful sleeping area, which is open to the downstairs, but which does have a comfortable queen bed, a chest for clothes, a desk, a shelved linen closet with room for your things as well, a hang-up clothes closet and an ensuite 3 piece bathroom.
The unit has lovely natural light coming from patio doors as well as skylights in the master suite and upstairs that can be opened for fresh air. To top it off there is a beautiful spacious deck that has a couch and two chairs, banquette seating around the perimeter, a grill for cooking outdoors and views of the area as well as Devil's Peak in the distance.
Despite its proximity to Kloof Street, it is a quiet space for relaxing after a day of sightseeing and there is plenty of comfortable seating both indoors and out to relax with a glass of South African wine or some Amarula.
A block away on Kloof street there is a pharmacy, liquor store and a Checkers grocery store that has tasty prepared foods as well as any needed groceries.
There are many bars and really good restaurants on Kloof Street, which can be bustling both day and night, but you'd never know it when inside the unit.
The unit is in the Company Gardens area, which is not close to many of the tourist attractions, but anything you want to see or do is an easy and inexpensive Uber drive away.
The unit does have ac, but I cannot speak for its use as we did not need it during our stay. The upstairs has a floor fan as well as skylights that can be opened in both in the bath and sleeping area, but I did not notice a separate ac there.
I gave the unit 5 stars for all that it offered to us in comfort, convenience and quiet, after weeks traveling in jeeps and staying in tent camps.
However, it should be noted that while it is listed as a 3 bedroom place, the den/bedroom on the first floor only has a twin bed and the second floor area, while spacious, is open to the downstairs and the ceiling has angles that would not suit a six foot person.
Nevertheless, the unit was all we could have wanted at a price much less than a hotel. The fully equipped kitchen and living spaces to spread out and relax both indoors and on the deck were a very welcome change from the closed quarters earlier on in our trip.
The owner, Caitlin, was very helpful both before and during our trip and her housekeeper, Beauty, greeted us and gave us the tour of the unit. Caitlin even let us keep our luggage there past the 10 am check-out time, so that we could get in a bit more sight seeing before flying home.
We recently attended a conference in Cape Town and got to stay here! It is just the most beautifully renovated apartment. Staying with colleagues, we were so pleased to have so much space to ourselves. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and has everything you need. The lovely outdoor veranda is huge and we got to spend time relaxing there with beautiful views of the mountain and a sense of being outdoors. We felt safe walking around, the restaurants and shops are very conveniently situated. We will definitely choose to stay thee again! There is a garage to park a car in but at times we left it parked in the street and a very friendly and helpful car guard kept an eye on it for us!
