We stayed four nights as a couple in August. We wanted to to stay someplace away from the hubbub of downtown and were attracted by the website photos. In addition to the hotel being as beautiful as advertised, the staff made it warm and welcoming.
The hotel is situated at the top of a steep street climbing up Signal Hill away from Somerset street, within walking distance of V&A and the stadium, and about 20-30 minutes from City Bowl (about 50 rand by cab). There is a Woolworths grocery nearby as well as many dining options.
Our room was very comfortable, decorated in a minimalist style. We had a private deck overlooking the pool and with a view of the waterfront, partially obstructed by a large palm tree, plus a little view around the corner of Signal hill. The blackout curtains helped keep the sun from waking us, while a little oblique light filtering in from the glass shower around the corner kept us from oversleeping. While there is no minibar, there are refreshments available in the breakfast area, including a fresh baked goodies in the afternoon awaiting weary tourists.
Breakfast itself was a wonderful spread of bread, meats, cheeses, pickles, fruit, juice and a selection of hot dishes cooked to order. Service is prompt and personable. Te eating/lounge area looks out through large glass doors to the pool and garden. Even though the winter weather was cold and rainy we were able to enjoy a little bit of the outdoors in comfort.
All of the staff were wonderful, from the owner to the concierge to the night man. Our experience was a lovely introduction to Cape Town and a great value. Highly recommended.
