As another reviewer has already pointed out, there is no thali on the menu. Weird, because a series of small dishes does not a thali make. It's rather like an Indian tapas restaurant with a whole lot of small dishes which you share (or not) in a vegetarian or carnivorous style. But the dishes are beautifully created, flavoursome and imaginative... Heat in chilies but not in temperature.

Service is prompt and efficient, no BYO and no bookings. With their dreadful wine list, I am surprised that BYO is outlawed.

This is a must for foodies. Liam and his team never fail to offer the best of the best. The food is delicious, beautifully prepared and plated. The tapas style eating is such a pleasure as you really get the taste of each dish.
You will not be disappointed

Everything is top notch at Thali which I highly recommend you try. We were seated immediately and drinks orders came swiftly. They serve a four-course set menu. It's pricey but since it's more of a fine dining experience we didn't mind and honestly it is worth every penny!! The flavours are absolutely amazing and care is taken in the prep and presentation of every dish. We were seated close to the kitchen and it was interesting to watch the chefs at work. Nothing leaves the kitchen until the head chef is happy with it. We waited a bit for our first course but we were kept up to speed with how long we'd still be waiting (we didn't have to ask, they informed us). Thank you to everyone who served us! It was a great experience!

Thalis is situated off Kloof street (the main drag for good bars and restaurants in the Cape Town CBD)

This is a first come first serve restaurant so you need to go early.

The menu is a fixed four course menu, the 4th course being the curry - so pace yourself.

The flavours we’re deliciously authentic - I don’t think I’ve tasted these flavours in Cape Town before. The food is served in wonderful arrangements with accompaniments for every course. It’s truly an experience rather than just being a meal.

Where do I start?
Great reception
Great atmosphere and seating
The waiter, Kevin, was fantastic and explained everything from the menu to the courses and how to order vegetarian or meat dishes. Also a lovely lady whose name I did not get.
The food was absolutely delicious and certainly full of originality and the amount was just right. Great curry dishes that were flavoured to perfection.
All in all a MUST GO TO RESTAURANT
I cannot wait to try the owner's other places in Cape Town and Franchoek which opens soon.
