Description: Born circa 1988, before the opening of the V&A Waterfront, Panama Jacks has evolved from a boatyard servicing the Royal Cape Yacht Club to a quality Seafood Restaurant known all over the world. Originally situated in Table Bay Harbour, in the working half of the Cape Town docks, Panama Jacks is unique in its setting with all the hustle and bustle of a commercial port going about its daily business. Take off your jacket, loosen your tie and come see what the fuss is all about!

Amazing fresh wild abalone served here. You can actually pick your abalone out of a tank. Where does that happen anymore??? I was so excited to try this delicacy!! If you want fresh wild abalone, head to Panama Jack's, you won't be disappointed!!

Panama jacks is set on the container wharf so is not your typical city restaurant. The decor is old and a bit jaded but it has a lively atmosphere and the service is great and the food is very good. The seafood is fresh and there is a good selection on the menu. I recommend the seafood platter as this gives you a good selection of many of the local sea foods. Some of the food e.g. scallops are seasonal so you may miss out on these.

On the one hand I am a caterer/hotelier on my own - on the other I used to live in Hamburg, Germany. So I might know a bit about restaurants and fish... and Panama Jacks is just great!

Location seems weird because it is directly in the harbour cargo dispatch area. But it is worth it - our dish with a large plate of sea food for two was great. Plus the waiter was not only so charming and helpful - this is something you can expect in Cape Town. He was also very professional and recommended an amazing white wine, local cuvée - and that you would not expect on a location like this.

Is an adventure to find this place. Is located in the industrial port in the middle of the docks, so you have to cross a barrier and security point. But once you get there, you'l discover one of the most authentic taverns from Cape Town. The impression is that you are in the hidden place of the pirates. Anyway the general look is of a dusty, dark tavern. But the food and the atmosphere can be more authentic. Kingdom of sea food and paradise of beers. Everything ridiculous cheap. Is the place to be if you wanna feel the real Cape Town.

A shack in the docks - it looks a bit like a good breeze would take it away but go and eat there. Seafood is the main thing and they do it well. We took a taxi but if you drive get co - ordinates as it is very much on its own in the docklands - do not think of walking there or back - too far and very remote dock area. This is an informal, not dressy, relaxed place. Friendly staff.

We went for a platter and were told not to have a starter which was honest - a huge spread. The kids shared a Calamari starter and had Prawns and King clip which were good. If you are in Cape Town for a week make sure to include this to mix things up a bit.
