Description: Addis in Cape! Voted best African Eatery in Cape Town, an authentic Ethiopian restaurant that caters for Non-vegetarian, Vegan and Vegetarian clients. We provide a unique communal dining experience you, your family and friends will remember. From traditional hand-wash ceremonies to our traditional Ethiopian coffee we promise a memorable experience. Ethiopian cuisine is famous for its rich aromas and generous use of herbs and spices. The country was historically situated on trading routes that included the trade of many exotic spices; this history has had a tremendous influence on the taste of Ethiopian food as we know it. Today most of the herbs and spices are blended and prepared in the home with great love and attention, as are those used in Addis in Cape. The dishes that you taste here are unique to Ethiopia and we are proud as a restaurant to share them with you.

I'm vegan with a gluten allergy visiting Cape Town and I had an awesome evening here with 3 vegetarian or vegan friends. We got the set menu, which I think is the best deal if you're 4 or 5 people with similar food preferences. All vegetarian dishes here are vegan and I don't think anything contains gluten (including the Injera bread!). With the set menu you get a shared appetizer, six different dishes as well as tomatoes and spinach, a choice of dessert, and very strong coffee and popcorn. Perhaps go elsewhere if you're in a rush because dinner here is an experience that takes a while (2-3 hours). However, I would highly recommend taking the time to share a superb communal dining experience with great food and friendly service.

Bought a Groupon voucher for lunch for 4 people and after reading all the rave reviews on trip advisor was really looking forward the experience in eating in an Ethiopian Restaurant and eating the food. The platter what we be got for our voucher was disappointing and after the 4 of us nibbled at the food we left about 50%. The service was OK but only after we confronted the Manageress as our waiter a very pleasant guy was slow in bringing our drinks as the restaurant was quite full with as could only see one waiter.. I think this would be a good place to experience and order off the menu different items instead of the platter and I could see the place becoming very festive.

Had visited this restaurant previously and had happy memories, so decided on a return visit.
There were 3 of us and we selected the set menu for 2 at R255 pp.
There were 8 different dishes both vegetarian which was spinach, red lentils and chick peas and non vegetarian including beef, prawns, chicken and lamb.
The food is served with rice flour bread which you use to wrap around your chosen food.
The food was tasty and we had ample food .
The set menu also included a desert selection and Ethiopian tea.
Well worth a visit even for the non adventurous.

Thank John J

This was more than a meal it was culinary theatre with its hand washing ceremony, art work and unique rustic charm. Most of the main courses are gluten free with plenty of veggie options which having Coeliac Disease and being veggie made choosing pleasantly difficult for a change. The staff there were really wonderful, they explained everything thoroughly and had a little chat to us about the various dishes. We decided to go for the three course set menu with the coffee ceremony and also try the honey wine so we could say we had fully immersed ourselves in the whole experience. Everything tasted fabulous although my husband quickly went onto the lager but I really enjoyed the honey wine having a really sweet tooth. Most of the desserts were off limits to Coeliacs but the sorbet was so nice this wasn't a problem. If we lived in Cape Town then this would be a regular haunt but now we have tried Ethiopian cuisine we will endeavour to find a restaurant local to our home town.
Thank you Addis for this marvellous experience.

We enjoyed our dinner here immensely. Great atmosphere, delicious authentic food and really good service. Only R800 for 2 of us - which included wine with dinner.
