Gourikwa reserve is a newly refurbished nature reserve with anout 5 km of unspoilt shoreline and 2000 ha of fynbos. There are about 20 cottages. Ours had two beds, two bathrooms, lounge, kitchen and covered patio with braai area, looking over fynbos and wide expanse of ocean. Walks to a view point and to the lighthouse were great. Super for mountainbiking. Breakfast can be arranged with the receptionist. She prepared a hearty English breakfast. The pool area is beautiful. There is a wedding venue, and a charming chapel right on the coast. A lovely, peaceful place. We are not into fishing, but it should be a fisherman's paradise.

Our family of 25 (adults and children) stayed at Gourikwa over Christmas in the Fishermans Cottages.
The Cottages were well furnished and well equipped.
Because we were such a large number of people, we were allowed to use the conference centre every night so that we could have supper together.
On the negative side, despite the fact that the website said there were tennis courts and that the units were serviced at times, the tennis courts no longer existed and there was nobody to service the units.
Also, two of families in the group were allocated units 2km and 5km away respectively which made them very isolated from the main group.
And nobody could walk barefoot because of the terrible thorns which poked right through rubber flip flops.
When we left, we were told that there were items missing from the units (such as braai tripod and braai grill) which we never even used.
The number of people at the reserve was limited but they are currently upgrading all the units and I think that then they will be much busier and become more expensive as well.

Room Tip: The Fisherman Cottages are well located.

We recently rediscovered this place they have done a lot of renovations to the old buildings. It has now got a really modern feel yet still the old look to the places. We stayed there for our honeymoon and it was so peaceful we felt as if we were the only ones there surrounded by the Zebras and Eland. It was fantastic thank you
