Unexpectedly Amazing

Review of The Oasis Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 03 Oct 2017
This is a very beautiful hotel. I step away from being a five star hotel. If it were bigger, had a big dining hall and a huge variety of breakfast. The rooms are very small, I do not know if they have family units or perhaps I was in a standard room. But if so, they are small. I cannot complain because they are modernly furnished. Has a bar fridge, enough lights. the shower is amazing. very comfortable and clean looking. On the last night and morning I had no towels at all, whether clean or dirty. The staff might want to look at that inconsistency though. Dinner is either at the Protea hotel which is a few feet away from the Oasis, or at Ocean Basket restaurant at the Kalahari Mall - Entrance 2. The mall is 4KM away, or less depending on the route used. The wifi is excellent. No room service

We only had occasion to spend one night at this fabulous hotel and we enjoyed our stay immensely. There was a problem with our online booking, so the manager was kind enough to meet us at the hotel to get the issue resolved. Our reservation was upgraded to a suite! First osunday f all the location was excellent, right in the center of town. Maybe because it was a The outside and inside of the hotel had a very modern, upscale appearance. There was a comfy sitting room in the lobby area, also a lovely dining room where they served an excellent breakfast buffet which was included in the price of the room. Another bonus was free in-room internet and DSTV cable tlelevision. We had no difficulty with the wifi working as some reviews mention. Our balcony offered a partial view of the Orange River. Our suite was beautifully furnished--very modern and upscale. The unit was spotless. It also included a fridge and coffeemaker. The shower stall was quite large and at floor level without one having to climb out of the stall. The bedding and mattress were of good quality ensuring a good night's rest.

Should we have occasion to come back to Upington we will definitely stay here again.

Room tip: Try to get a room with a partial river view

Good hotel and near to the Upington airport, room with confortable bed and all necessary furniture to rest well, big bathroom, air con and mini bar.
The breakfast is excellent with different thing to choose and the service is friendly and always willing to help.
If they improve Wi-Fi connection would be grate because I had some troubles with my 3 devices.

I did'nt know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. My room was on the 2nd floor facing the river and had very nice modern furnishings, fantastic bed and en enormous bathroom with shower and bath. I was extremely comfortable and loved the view from the balcony. The aircon could be set to perfect temperature, there was a mini bar for cold water and overall it was great. The only downside was a very weak reading lamp so one had to read with the main lights on.

The breakfast was excellent and the service friendly and efficient from waiters to the front desk.

I would recommend this hotel but I think one has to request the newly re-vamped rooms on the river side.

Room tip: 2nd floor, facing river, newly re-vamped rooms

I had the unfortunate opportunity to stay two nights here. The room on the top floor facing the street provided a constant exposure to cars blaring radios and revving their engines into the wee hours of the morning - about 3AM. The room was in need of an upgrade. The rugs were extremely stained. The shower tiles around the drain were coming apart and sagging into the sub-flooring.

The Wi-Fi access is terrible. You get an access code that lasts about two hours. When you ask for additional minutes it's like you're asking for something special.

The breakfast buffet was very average. When getting eggs to order you had to wait for a while for the cook to come out of the kitchen. Several of the items on the buffet line should have been hot, but were cold. Flies were all over the breads because they weren't covered. Same for the fruits and cereals. the tables were sticky and needed a thorough cleaning. I felt dirty just sitting down.

I would not recommend this establishment.

Room tip: Stay away frm streetside rooms!

Was put in a corner room, was smaller than the other rooms and the air conditioning did not work.
By ten at night it was unbearably hot so l whent to complain, l was put in a room down the hall which was bigger with a sofa and the air conditioning worked.
My mind had been changed l canceld my trip to Namibia and Zambia and returned home to Cullinan. The night in room 222 spoilt my holiday and am now home.
