Sofisticated stay

Review of The Oasis Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Nov 2016via mobile
The booking agent made a mess up of our booking but luckily it was sorted out by Izelle, the Hospitality manager. Comfortable stay and just love the "George Clooney" coffee in the rooms. Wish the water pressure in the showers were better but it is clean and nice

We hoped for a relaxing weekend with some luxury. What a disappointment!!
I'm not sure whether the rating system in ZA is different, but this place is far away from the given 4 Stars and definitely not on Mariott Standard. Check in was friendly but no assistance with luggage at all. The room was noisy since facing the road and anything else than clean. The aircon wasn't working! We reported this as well the loose handle from the shower at the reception and were assured that this will be fixed. Nothing were fixed. The A/C wasn't cooling and the shower handle was in our hand the next morning again. The bed was quite small and the lift quite noisy as well. There was more but lets leave it with this. Next time we choose a Guesthouse again they are more customer focused than Hotels in ZA. Breakfast was acceptable. The Restaurant was across the road with very limited food selection and totally overcharges wine prices.

Room tip: go to a guesthouse

A quick one night stop at a beautiful hotel. Loved the aircon - it was 40 degrees outside. Loved the modern spacious room and beautiful garden. And especially loved the views over the river. Staff was fab and so helpful.
Only downside was the room service dinner - butter curried chicken - had a funny taste - perhaps too much butter!
Wonderful hotel - will definitely stay there again.

After a long trip from Pretoria, we arrived at this great hotel. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. We were given an upgrade to their best available room which happen to be a suite on the top floor, with a complementary cheese board and red wine. This is the first Protea hotel that treated us like longstanding members of their rewards club. If we get this kind of treatment from other Protea hotels we would never think twice where to stay. The suite was neat, clean and modern with a seperate lounge, dining table and small kitchenette with a coffee machine and kettle. The kingsize bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was nice and had bath, shower and separate toilet. Doors opened up on a veranda with views of Upington. We had a delightful stay. Breakfast was standard buffet style but adequate. We would love to stay here again.

I have stayed at the Protea Hotel Oasis a couple of times when doing business trips within the northern cape region. Coming from JHB it is a long trip to Upington one way, and because of this a person would like some good service and also a good nights sleep.
I stayed in room 222 which in it's self was in good condition and there was not much i could complain about. The issue is the noise the lift makes when in motion. This has been the same for months now and considering that the specific room i stayed in is right next door to the elevator, it makes it difficult to fall a sleep. I have seen numerous reviews regarding this issue and still nothing has been done.

Then breakfast the next morning was also a little dissapointing. Some of the food was cold and i happen to find a lock of hair in my mushrooms. Sure accidents happen but the overall experience this time around in a short period of time was not satisfactory. This is a nice Hotel with potential that gets negative reviews for small things that if sorted can ensure a great experience.

I truly hope that these issues will be addressed in order for us to continue staying at the Protea when doing business trips this side of the world. Like i said, not a bad Hotel but needs to up their game to postively influence current perceptions.

Room tip: Rooms further from the elevator will be quieter for those looking for a good nights rest.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Protea Hotel Oasis. My sincere apology for the negative experience you had, and also thank you for bringing our shortcomings to my attention, and for assisting us in improving our service and facilities. We are also busy with scheduling a complete replacement of the lift as it is non repairable in 2017. We value your continued support and I do hope we'll have the privilege of welcoming you back again soon!

The hotel itself is situated in central Upington which is an extremely nice town with lots to do. I have stayed in this hotel before but I was rather disappointed this time around due to basic maintenance and room cleaning functions been overlooked. Previous stays I also encountered one or two minor issues but nothing ever causing an inconvenience. This time around however it was a bathroom light not working, an air conditioning remote with flat batteries in the coldest time of the year and a used miniature shampoo bottle with the previous guests hair all over it (I know right...). Other then that the hotel is generally good with pleasant staff and good food served in the sister hotel next door.

Assuming the issues above are addressed and not repeated, I am sure people would have a pleasant stay.
