This is a beautiful place, as describe in other reviews, a place with stark differences, extreme contrasts and endless starlit nights! We stayed at Paulshoek for 2 nights and Elandsberg 1 night. Paulshoek has got a waterhole very close by the cottage which offers glorious sightings of animal and birds coming for a drink. We are birders and enjoyed the Karoo birds tremendously with 14 brand new sightings. Both camps had no electricity and no cellphone coverage, supplied with gas stoves, gas water heaters, candles and lamps. At both camps mice were a big problem, getting to your food if not packed away securely. Kitchens lacks bottle openers, strainers etc. plus not enough towels were given for the amount of people staying. Roads are heavily corrugated and makes it very difficult to drive even at a slow pace following birds and/or animals. Oudebaaskraal dam is a lovely place for birders and staff of the park recommended excellent birding around the dam, but sadly one cant get close to the dams edge for observing and identifying any birds. Also the dam is renown for the yearly birding bonanza, but not one single birding hide is to be seen. Staff quarters and old machines/equipment is all over to be seen and could and should be hidden more effectively from guests sight, as this is not a pretty picture and leave you with a feeling of neglect! With very little effort this park can be transferred to the gem of Sanparks.
