Always a fun adventure the landscape is stunning. Beaches are beautiful and I always meet beautiful people. As I explore the coast my favourite places are in St Lucia

I did a self-drive. Not my first time here. This huge park is an amazing natural gem, and if you have an interest in nature and wildlife it's an essential visit. But it could be so much better for visitors. Basic maintenance is neglected, as others have said. Most of the signage for the loop roads doesn't make sense or is missing, and is not the same on the maps, the dirt roads are poorly maintained, the Cape Vidal shop isn't exactly Harrods and the roofs are falling off the toilets. With just a bit of effort this place could be spruced up. And it needs more hides and more viewpoints. And the official park map on the park website says 'Dukuduku gate opening mid-2008'! :) That's not lack of money but just laziness. I've no idea what the park management are doing.
But please don't let this put you off. Look past this and this park is a very special place, with special wildlife, especially birds. There are some amazing landscapes and views. There aren't many places left of this scale left in the world which you can have the privilege to visit. Just slow down, go with the flow and enjoy it. And you've got all the facilities you need in the fantastic little town of St Lucia. (It's lucky because there isn't much at Cape Vidal!)

A boat trip on the lagoon was part of an organized trip. I think this is a great experience if you want to get as close to the hippos as you possibly can. It was very overcast on the afternoon we went on the boat, which was perhaps even more favourable conditions for us to see three large hippo families in shallow waters.

The entire wetland park is beautiful as far as you can see

Bhangazi Bush Lodge located in Isimangaliso Wetland Park near Cape Vidal beach, offers stunning natural surroundings and abundant wildlife. However, our stay was spoiled by neglected maintenance issues. The linen and curtains were stained and torn, suggesting poor cleanliness and guest comfort. We faced water supply problems, including a night without water due to leaking tanks. Though we were offered alternative accommodation halfway through our stay, a temporary fix was eventually provided. The road leading to the lodge was difficult to access, requiring high clearance vehicles. The travel agency (St Lucia SA) representatives seemed unaware of the lodge's condition and amenities. Despite the breath-taking nature, the lack of maintenance, water supply issues, inaccurate information, and inaccessible road made for a disappointing experience. We hope management addresses these concerns to enhance future guests' satisfaction. We will not be returning.
