Sit back and be amazed. Viewing the land of Kruger National Park, its creatures, patterns, weather, behavior is best done with Neil Heron of Bearded Heron Safaris. He knows not only where to go to find animals, birds, and creatures of all sorts, but he has extensive knowledge about everything in the Kruger environment. If you are able - go!

Neil has a feeling for the ecosystem of Kruger. For 27 years he has studied the behavior of the inhabitants of Kruger-and their interactions-which he generously shares with his guests. Don't miss this "entry" into life in Kruger.

Too often famous places don’t live up to the hype. Not this time. Kruger is dreamy and heart-expanding and so so good for the soul.
I spent 3 days in the park and each moment was special. The best time is very early morning, as soon as the gates open, because the animals are most active then. In mid-October, it was also very cold at that time of day. Although the operators offer blankets, the open-air jeeps, (covered), offer little protection, so dress in layers. It will warm up by late morning. Don’t forget binoculars.
Within 5 minutes of entering Kruger we spotted a leopard. Within an hour we saw elephants, zebras, hippos, crocs, impala, kudu, warthogs, hyena, water buffalo, giraffes, and a lion. The animals are everywhere, right beside the Jeep, crossing the road, galloping across the ground. It is nothing like a zoo and I’m now uninterested in visiting them after being here in Kruger.
It is unforgettable and I’d return in a heartbeat.

Book early depending on the season you may find limited available safari vehicle.
Take water with you. And go to the toilet before you start the tour.
The safari guide can make or break the tour, choose wisely.

Great experience, loved seeing the animals at a safe distance in a natural setting.
Be aware that you need your passport details at the ticket office (which is chaos, with people Queuing to pay) even if, like us you’ve booked a safari tour.
Once in there, the guides radio one another alerting to where some of the rarer animals are. I’ve always loved Zebra and they are still my favourite, but the Giraffes come a close second with the Elephants especially the babies, there’s Lions, leopards, water buffaloes and monkey. Impala’s are in abundance the only animal we didn’t see was the Rhino. There's also lots of different types of amazing birds.
Inside the Kruger there’s a cafe with toilets and a souvenir shop. Do be careful when eating food outside in the picnic area as the monkeys are quick to steel your food!
Do take plenty water to drink as it’s hot
