Great experience, loved seeing the animals at a safe distance in a natural setting.
Be aware that you need your passport details at the ticket office (which is chaos, with people Queuing to pay) even if, like us you’ve booked a safari tour.
Once in there, the guides radio one another alerting to where some of the rarer animals are. I’ve always loved Zebra and they are still my favourite, but the Giraffes come a close second with the Elephants especially the babies, there’s Lions, leopards, water buffaloes and monkey. Impala’s are in abundance the only animal we didn’t see was the Rhino. There's also lots of different types of amazing birds.
Inside the Kruger there’s a cafe with toilets and a souvenir shop. Do be careful when eating food outside in the picnic area as the monkeys are quick to steel your food!
Do take plenty water to drink as it’s hot
The staff at the gate is so friendly and helpful, the gate is old but clean and well maintained, even the toilets are clean.
This is a place which is run by the government and yet we had top class service friendly and efficient. Well Done SanParks
Upon entering the park shortly after it opened at 5:30am, we saw giraffes, elephants, hundreds of antelopes of so many varieties and were totally amazed at their beauty. They seem to pay no mind at all to the visitors in their endless line of motor vehicles and sightseeing buses. It was easy to plan loops from Phabeni Gate daily and see something totally different every day. Travelling with just one companion we felt totally safe in our vehicle and found our way around easily, usually ending up at Skukuza for a late brunch or early lunch. Then we spent the afternoon finding our way around another area of the park returning to Phabeni Gate because we were staying in a resort in Hazyview. It was amazing!
One of a kind experience just waking up in the woods and feeling all peaceful. Stayed at the kruger park hotel and was surprised by how good the place was. The drive in the national park was something to experience once in your life.
