What an amazing little place. I loved it here could have stayed a few more days. This was part of our SA tour stayed here for Kruger. Take a torch as lights go off for two hrs every night and it's pitch black only light is in hotel area. Prices reasonable breakfast buffet very good pizzas yummy and scenery just stunning. There is nowhere to go and no taxis come here stayed three nights.

Good day Louise, Hope you are well and thank you for your lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us. Although we do not have an inhouse transport service, there are various options available with our outside service providers for transfers between the hotel and town/activities. We have also taken note of the dark pathways and will be addressing this.

Our recent trip to Hippo Hollow Country Estate was one of our Memorable holidays. From arrival to departure we were treated with the utmost friendliness and professionalism from all the staff! My son was treated like a King with every Breakfast and was made sure he was comfortable and relaxed as well, they really went out of their way to make him happy! And then there is not even talking about the most beautiful views and relaxing and tranquil atmosphere with Elephants and Hippos on your doorstep. I would definitely recommend Hippo Hollow for your next trip. If you don't believe me try them for yourself!

Room tip: Make provision for dinner if you do not want to eat at the Restaurant. No facilities to make your own dinner (eg. braai, microwave etc.)

The staff were really nice and helpful. The food at the restaurant was very tasteful! We even saw some baby hippo’s at night in the river! The beds are huge, Wich I was really nice. The rooms are also very clean. The whole vibe & scenery of this hotel is lovely and a true African experience.

Its in a great location to visit the Kruger National Park, and first impressions are very good, its in a great setting.
However the rooms are a little dated and tired and could do with a make over.
The restaurant staff were unfriendly to the point of being rude, as if we were an inconvenience to them.
The service was extremely slow, but the food was ok when it eventually arrived

Our two-night stay in this quiet haven, close to Kruger Park was both relaxing and enjoyable. The friendly staff made us a packed breakfast for an early morning game drive. Our well-designed river-view chalet overlooked the nearby game sanctuary and this was a big plus.

We loved the property and two pools at Hippo Hollow. A lso, our garden-facing room was beautifully built with heavy African wood furniture, comfy beds, a big bathroom with double shower, a fridge, hairdryer, good lighting and an airy terrace with a nice table and chairs. There was an electric kettle and rooibos tea. We were able to get up very early and have tea on our terrace and look for animals as it got lighter out.
There is a safe and the cabin door locked easily.
We arrived around 4pm. We had been advised about 2 nice restaurants nearby and assumed we could take a taxi or Uber. When we asked about walking over and Ubering back, the Intake person looked totally alarmed and said, "No! No, you can't
do that! It's not safe." We were stunned by the reaction. He then said there are no Ubers or taxis in Hazyview. The only option would be him trying to find someone to drive us over, wait while we had dinner, then drive us back. We estimated it would be about $40-50 USd and not worth it. The only option was their buffet. It was ok but not fabulous. Breakfast buffet was the same. We had 2 breakfasts and the one dinner.
We also had load shedding for 2 1/2 hours from 9pm-11:30pm. That was fine with us as we went to sleep and had a long good night in their comfy beds.
A highlight was seeing elephants being exercised as they "walked to work" at Elephant Whispers nearby across the Sabie River. There was a clear view of the river from the beautiful open air restaurant. We saw this two days in a row!
Hippo Hollow is beautifully decorated and landscaped and is quiet and civilized. We really appreciated that. But, you need your own transport or you are a prisoner there.

Room tip: Have a car. There are no Ubers or taxis.
